My team and I are attending the WSIA (Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association) tech conference and just listened to an insightful panel on AI in Commercial Insurance with Angela Alaniz (CRC), Duncan Crystal (Herald), Relativity6 🤖 and Erin Dyer Blain (Cowbell Cyber). Key Takeaways: • While AI advancements accelerate, it's crucial not to overlook the necessity of human oversight in *final* risk selection and underwriting. • AI platforms are actively aiding insurers in deduplicating, extracting and sourcing public data, enhancing submission insights. Particularly for high volume product lines. • E&S Insurance, inherently innovative, should integrate AI for pricing, underwriting, and customer service functions. • Accuracy concerns persist; experimentation is encouraged in these early AI stages to address hallucination risks. • The fundamental KPIs remain crucial: loss ratios, profit margin expansion, etc. Steer clear of chasing after the latest shiny object and focus on what truly matters.
