  • Every one of our colleagues is honored by receiving U.S. News & World Report’s recognition of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital as one of our nation’s ‘Best Hospitals 2024-2025’. In fact, there are *seven* HCA Virginia Hospitals, including Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, recognized among the best of the ‘Best Hospitals 2024 – 2025’ – Chippenham Hospital & Johnston-Willis Hospital – both in our Greater Richmond region, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in the Blacksburg-area, LewisGale Medical Center of Salem, VA, Reston Hospital Center, and Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. “This recent recognition is a testament to our dedicated physicians, nurses, clinical teams, and colleagues who are committed to the care and improvement of human life,” said Elizabeth Mikula, Vice President of Quality for HCA Healthcare Capital Division. “We deeply value the importance of families having the freedom to choose where they receive medical care. We are honored to be their choice for healthcare and grateful to be recognized for the exceptional care that our hospitals provide.” U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions; only 11% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

  • 24 years ago, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital was one of only five U.S. hospitals the FDA approved for use of our nation’s first robotic surgery system for general laparoscopic surgery. Following that FDA approval, in 2002, Dr. William Kelley Jr., of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, became the first physician in this nation to successfully complete a robotic-assisted surgery. This month, Ralph Layman, MD, FACS, who serves as the director of Trauma Surgery and Kidney Transplant with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, performed his 1000th robotic-assisted surgery! Colleagues, working alongside Dr. Layman, celebrated this incredible milestone knowing how many lives have been touched by this technology and care! Congratulations!

  • William (Will) Woodworth is a survivor. Since his car accident in December, Will and his care team at Henrico, Parham & Retreat Doctors' Hospitals have been working tirelessly to help him return to his favorite place: the great outdoors. After Will was pulled from his burning truck by two passersby, he was rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU) at HCA Virginia Health System’s Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. There, our trauma experts diligently cared for his injuries. Will and his family are grateful for the doctors, nurses and therapists at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital's Level II Trauma Center. • Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Team delivers a ‘first in Central Virginia’ successfully completing the TriClip procedure! Dr. Robert Levitt, Dr. Chiwon Hahn and Dr. Gustavo Gonzalez worked in tandem with the Structural Heart Team, completing the minimally invasive therapy treating patients with a leaky tricuspid valve, a condition known as tricuspid regurgitation (TR). Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) has historically been an underdiagnosed and undertreated disease, often impacting older individuals who aren’t surgical candidates. With TriClip, a first-of-its-kind therapy, people with previously limited treatment options now have a minimally invasive, non-surgical option to repair the tricuspid valve, offering a sustained reduction of TR and an improved quality of life. Dr. Levitt shared his appreciation for the team and is proud of the outcome supporting the patient receiving the area’s first TriClip procedure, offering “The structural heart team at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital is very excited to offer the Triclip procedure to the Richmond area. The Triclip procedure allows us to repair the Tricuspid valve of the heart with catheters and without open surgery. Dr Hahn and I performed the first Triclip procedure in Richmond early this month. The procedure was very successful and the patient was discharged the next day with marked improvement in his heart failure symptoms." Congratulations, to the team for all your work bringing this important therapy to Central Virginia!

  • Recognizing mental health is a critical component of overall wellbeing, we have dedicated ourselves to creating a comprehensive, accessible, and compassionate outpatient service. The Women’s Hospital of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital proudly cut the ribbon this week for the Women's Intensive Outpatient Program – an area of focus designed for women with specialized programming, including self-esteem building, regular self-care, grief and loss, bipolar disorder, both pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety, miscarriage and loss, societal pressures on women, managing roles and responsibilities, and developing coping techniques for depression and anxiety. The new, dedicated space is designed to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where women can receive the care they need and deserve. Dr. Vienne Murray, Faith Parker, MSN, RNC-OB, Allyssa Tobitt, CEO of Parham Doctors’ Hospital and Kaitlyn Streeter, ATR LPC cut the ribbon joined by State Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg and Congressman Rob Wittman showing support for the opening. We thank everyone who has contributed to making this vision a reality. Your dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. We help women heal.
