My reflections after spending 48 hours with a group of exceptional #fasterpayments industry thought leaders 👇 I was thrilled to represent ⚡Orum.io⚡as founder/CEO at the Faster Payments Council fall member meeting a few weeks ago, and talk with some of the brightest in the business. I always leave feeling energized, inspired, and motivated. Big thanks to Reed Luhtanen, Angela Hendershott, and everyone from U.S. Faster Payments Council who put so much work into an amazing event. Here’s what’s on my mind after this session: ⏰ Taking time to be among your industry peers is an investment, but one that’s so worth it. ⏰  I get it: It’s hard to take a day or three away from your computer. It feels like you’re not “working on the business”—but you ARE. You’ll go back to your role smarter and sharper. You’ll gain additional perspectives. You’ll have new tools from innovative thinkers. You’ll have invested in your personal growth, in a way that fuels your company too. 🤝 Embrace an invaluable opportunity for serendipity to catch up, or get work done, with industry colleagues. 🤝 Calendars are tricky; everyone is busy. Too often we all end up chasing each other on email. Conferences and events are the rare times we can huddle IRL, go deeper with the conversation, and ideate together in a way that’s magic (looking at you Matthew Brazda at BNY and James Colassano from The Clearing House) 💸 Faster payments isn’t just about banks, or even just about consumer wage uses cases. 💸 The time-to-money problem that Orum seeks to solve involves examples like getting ridesharing drivers paid after each shift.  But consumer wages aren’t the only high-value use cases. Merchants like Target and Walmart were in the room talking about pay-by-bank and instant payments to check out online. AmEx spoke about enterprise business payment solutions. I participated in a panel about financial inclusion, and the need to serve an entire category of people who turn to predatory loans because they’re not served in the traditional financial system. The necessity, and the opportunity, is vast. In late 2023, our CEO and Founder Stephany Kirkpatrick, CFP®, could not have envisioned having a better professional year. We had established ourselves as a financial payments lifeline for many companies through the SVB crisis. ✅ We had raised more than $82 million from major investors like Bain Capital Ventures and American Express Capital Ventures. 💰 We partnered with the Federal Reserve and counted Public and Credit Genie as customers. 🤝 But then Stephany got a diagnosis of genetically linked early-stage breast cancer and learned she needed a double mastectomy.
