Did you know that pediatricians have a significant opportunity to start early conversations about mental health with families? While many families will not reach out to a therapist or other mental health professional unless they are in crisis, most families visit a pediatrician at least once a year for their wellness exam. This gives pediatricians an opportune moment to discuss child and adolescent mental health and educate families about the community resources available to them—like Backpack Healthcare! 💜 We have simplified our referral process so that healthcare providers can get kids, teens, and families the help they need within 5 days. Head to our blog: https://lnkd.in/eRczU3Jq to learn more about how Backpack can serve as a mental healthcare partner for pediatricians. 🌟 July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month! Here are some staggering statistics to highlight the disparity in care among BIPOC and how Backpack is making a difference: - People identifying as two or more races (25%) are most likely to report mental illness within the past year. - In 2022, Hispanic (40%), Black (38%), and Asian (36%) adults were significantly less likely than White adults (56%) to receive mental health services. - Nearly one-third of Muslim Americans perceive discrimination in healthcare settings. - One out of three asylum seekers and refugees experience high rates of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, yet only 3% are referred to mental health services after screening. At Backpack Healthcare, we’re committed to breaking down these barriers and ensuring that everyone has access to the mental health support they need. We provide therapy in more than 250 languages, making our services accessible and inclusive for diverse communities. How Backpack Healthcare is Making a Difference: - Cultural Intentionality: Our services are designed to be culturally sensitive and relevant, ensuring that everyone feels understood and supported. - Focused on Medicaid: We provide accessible mental health resources for children and families covered by Medicaid. - Community-Based Support: We foster a sense of belonging and solidarity, promoting shared cultural values and traditions. We’re here to help uplift and support the voices and lived experiences of BIPOC communities. By promoting open dialogue, challenging stereotypes, and educating about mental health, we aim to break the stigma and encourage more people to seek the help they need. 🗣️✨ Let’s work together to create a more inclusive and supportive mental health system for all.
