As we all prepare for the impending weather event, we want to briefly highlight that severe weather and hurricanes pose life-threatening conditions to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Lack of safe spaces to shelter leaves many of our neighbors isolated and unprotected. We have posted a page to our website with community resources and will keep this page updated as new information comes available. Please share these resources and keep our unhoused Houstonians in mind this week. https://lnkd.in/gyJETx4H We are closed on Monday, July 8 and anticipate resuming services on Tuesday, July 9 where we will serve as many patients as possible, including prescription refills for current patients. Stay safe and dry Houston!

Promoting health, hope and dignity for those affected by homelessness through accessible and comprehensive quality care.
About us
Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston (HHH) is Houston’s only stand-alone Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that exclusively serves homeless patients. To that end, our services are unduplicated and fill an essential gap in our community’s safety net system. The mission of HHH is to promote health, hope and dignity for those affected by homelessness through accessible and comprehensive quality care. We operate three integrated care clinics throughout Houston and provide services at multiple outreach sites, including soup kitchens, shelters and supportive housing units. Our services include highly integrated primary and behavioral healthcare, social services and comprehensive dental care that collectively help individuals regain health in order to move beyond homelessness.

Today, our amazing Street Medicine team presented at the Texas Street Medicine Symposium. Mudit Gilotra, Community Health Worker Joe “Cowboy” Benson, and Medical Assistant Art Rodriguez spoke about their hard work, success, and challenges in providing care on the street. Houston has achieved national renown in moving people into housing, but there continue to be those experiencing the most severe of physical and mental conditions living unsheltered. At HHH, our mission is to promote health, hope, and dignity for all people regardless of circumstance. We are proud of our team! #streetmedicine #health #hope #dignity #homelesshealthcare

Cloudburst’s Suzanne Marcus, Gender-Based Violence and Housing Specialist, and Ashley M., Technical Assistance Provider, joined forces this week to stand in solidarity with Health Care for the Homeless, National Health Care for the Homeless Council, National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), National Coalition for the Homeless, National Alliance to End Homelessness, and others while the Supreme Court heard opening arguments in Johnson v. Grants Pass—a case that could allow cities to criminalize unhoused people for sleeping on the streets. Homelessness has been on the rise since 2017, experiencing an overall increase of six percent. Unsheltered homelessness is also trending upwards impacting most racial, ethnic, and gender subgroups.* Resources: To learn more about Cloudburst’s work to eliminate homelessness: https://lnkd.in/gzyuXqfi To learn more about Johnson v. Houston Chronicle highlighted the launch of our Street Medicine program in late 2023. This program brings medical care directly to the streets, providing critical care and support to those facing the most severe barriers to housing instability, including physical and mental health conditions. “I’d rather not know. If you’re not sick, the bills will make you sick." - Steve, HHH Street Medicine Patient Thank you to Rebecca Schuetz for highlighting the work we are doing to promote health, hope and dignity in Houston.
