These chats will take place next week on Sunday, August 4th, with various slots starting at 2:00 pm and ending at 5:00 pm. 👔 Small Group Summer Week #6 👔 As we kicked off our fifth week, we were thrilled to welcome Diego, a software engineer from Google! Diego graduated from Tec de Monterrey in Mexico and is currently in his second year at Google. He is also an active member of the HOLA ERG and is passionate about mentoring prospective interns. Our fellows had the privilege of learning from Diego's experiences. He discussed his journey to Google, offered insights into successful recruiting as an international student, and shared valuable mock interview tips. Diego also emphasized the importance of making the most out of your work, covering topics like day-to-day activities, life at Google, working in Mexico and Austin, and essential skills for becoming a successful software engineer and entrepreneur. Mark began his career as a Summer Analyst at McKinsey & Company before transitioning to a full-time role. He now excels as a Senior Business Analyst at McKinsey. Our fellows had the opportunity to learn from Mark’s journey, discussing various aspects of McKinsey, his path into the company, and tips on effective workplace communication. Mark emphasized the importance of having a strong work ethic, cultivating relationships, career development, and recruiting. He leveraged these experiences into his current full time role on the People Experience team, at their Austin office. Our fellows had the opportunity to learn from Brian's journey, discussing the importance of internships, the culture at Google, and involvement in identity-based organizations like ALPFA. Brian shared his experiences as a content creator, his travels, and how to make the most of undergraduate involvement. 👔 Small Group Summer Week #3 👔 To kick off our third week, we were excited to host Calicia Johnson, M.S.⭐! Calicia began her career in the Chemical and Oil & Gas field before transitioning to the Product Management world. She now works as a Senior Product Manager for Xbox within Microsoft. For the past year, Calicia has also served as the Chair for Blacks Microsoft. Our fellows had the opportunity to learn from Calicia’s journey, discussing various aspects of Microsoft, her path into the company, the Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) she’s involved in, and tips on effective workplace communication. Calicia shared her experiences with career pivots, recruiting from non-target schools, and embracing one’s whole self at work. We are deeply grateful for Calicia’s time and dedication to HeadStart Fellowship and eagerly anticipate many more insightful small group sessions. 👔Small Group Summer Week #2 👔 To kick off our second week, we were excited to host Sam Diacos ! Sam started his career in the Investment Banking division at Goldman Sachs in Sydney, Australia. After spending a few years at Goldman, he became an advisor at Athletic Greens and is now the Chief Financial Officer at AG1 . Sam shared his experiences not only in transitioning careers but also in moving countries. He also left our fellows with some wisdom about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle as an intern. We are incredibly thankful for Sam’s time and commitment to HeadStart Fellowship and look forward to many more small group sessions. 👔 Small Group Summer Week #1 👔 This summer, HeadStart is excited to host our inaugural “Small Group Summer Series”! For 10 weeks through the middle of August, HeadStart community members will have the opportunity to interact with diverse professionals in our ecosystem in an intimate small group setting. To kick off our first week, we were excited to host HeadStart graduate Arturo Rodrigues! Arturo served as a HeadStart mentor for 2 years, and is currently an Investment Analyst at Blackstone. Our fellows were able to learn about Arturo’s unique journey to Blackstone through the Diverse Leaders program, his time studying abroad in South Korea, and his recent acceptance to the Harvard Business School 2 2 program. Arturo also shared tips for succeeding in internships, and his methods for discerning what is most important to him in both a professional and personal sense. We are extremely appreciative of Arturo’s commitment to the organization, and are excited for many more successful small group sessions!
