“It was a privilege to teach an important skill to such a unique group of impressionable and ambitious minds,” said Monica Howington, BSN, RN, injury prevention coordinator for the Level II Trauma Center at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. “The Girl Scouts were fully engaged and showed a real desire to learn how to help others. I am honored to work for an organization that allows me to make a difference in my community through initiatives like Stop The Bleed.” On July 17, our colleagues participated in the fourth annual First Aid Fair at Keiser University. They helped the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council learn their first aid badges by teaching them Hands-Only CPR, Stop The Bleed, and how to call 9-1-1. The training was provided to Girl Scouts of all levels, including Daisy Scouts to Ambassadors, as well as their troop leaders and family members.. We are proud to support Girl Scouts of America and champion their initiatives that positively impact young people in our communities. HCA Florida North Florida Hospital completed its first robotic Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy) performed by surgical oncologist Dr. Francisco Macedo. This groundbreaking procedure offers a minimally invasive surgical option for those with select gastrointestinal malignancies, such as pancreatic cancer. This robotic approach is only performed at select centers in the nation due to the clinical complexity of a Whipple procedure. “My priority as a surgical oncologist is always the patient – to maximize the chance for a cure, to remove the cancer and prioritize their quality of life,” said Dr. Francisco Macedo, surgical oncologist at North Florida Hospital. “Being able to perform this complex procedure robotically means a shorter hospital stay for the patient, less pain and quicker recovery time, all while maintaining a high-quality oncological outcome. This is truly allowing us to provide healthier tomorrows for our community.” As one of the state's largest healthcare networks, HCA Florida Healthcare provides accessible care, advanced treatments, and dedicated specialists to patients wherever and whenever needed. The network comprises 12 hospitals that have been recognized as Healthgrades 'America's 250 Best Hospitals. Learn more about this groundbreaking procedure: https://bit.ly/3zNRTRR
