We're pleased to share insights from our own Kevin Burke, AIA, Senior Associate / Sr. Architectural Designer, in the latest Casino Style magazine. Kevin discusses how the pandemic has transformed slot floor layout and design, emphasizing the importance of open, spacious gaming floors. "The Covid era necessitated this openness to the gaming floor," Kevin explains. "The emphasis shifted from the sheer number of games to the overall size and openness of the gaming floor, allowing for better spacing and a more pleasant environment." At HBG Design, we prioritize careful planning with our clients to create open spaces and integrate gaming within a holistic entertainment experience. We are excited to announce that HBG’s adaptive reuse design of the Talk Shop at the Caption won Second Place in ULI Memphis’ Tommy Pacello Awards! HBG’s Mark Weaver and Thor Harland were presented the award at ULI Memphis’ Annual Meeting on June 18. ULI Memphis’ Tommy Pacello Award is given annually to recognize local development projects that demonstrate the built environment values principles Tommy Pacello championed: small scale, low cost, high impact. Our Talk Shop adaptive reuse design exemplifies collaboration with city officials, neighborhood groups, and preservationists to adaptively reimagine the circa 1878 Wm. C. Ellis & Sons Machine Shop. Preserving two levels of its historic facade, it transforms into a contemporary neighborhood asset with a vibrant sidewalk experience at the junction of Front and Beale Streets. The indoor/outdoor Talk Shop engages locals and visitors with the transitioning neighborhood and entertainment district, enhancing a walkable downtown. The preserved Ellis facade serves as a historical artifact, maintaining a connection to Memphis’ past. This project balances preserving Memphis’ history with fostering progressive growth, setting a precedent for future developments that blend character and modernity. Photos by @thinkdero_architecture

Congrats on reaching the finish line Bridget Galicia ! 👏 We are pumped to have you back ❤️
I am officially done with school! 🎓 Last month, I graduated with a Masters of Interior Design from the Design Institute of San Diego. I am also celebrating a new job at HBG Design as a Junior Interior Designer! I can't believe school has come to an end, but that doesn't mean the learning stops. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work for such an amazing firm and so appreciative of DI and everyone at the school whom I got the privilege of knowing. Next on the list is NCIDQ certification!
