A pathway to transform healthcare for our patients and communities! ❤️ • The 2024-2025 Administrative Fellows here at Hartford HealthCare recently began their respective journeys across the system, and they’ve hit the ground running to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, equitable, and excellent for our patients and communities through enriching projects, leadership shadowing opportunities, and so much more. • We caught up with Michael Bazzano, Administrative Fellow supporting the Hartford Region, who offered his sentiments about how his experience has been going so far. Designed like a local grocery store, the Food4Health Clinic offers fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthy items at no cost for patients who have received a prescription from a Hartford Hospital physician. Patients are prescribed food specific to their health concerns, such as low-sodium items for patients with high blood pressure, or certain items and recipes for patients with diabetes. 🥦 The Food4Health program opened in 2022 and expanded with a satellite location at Hartford Hospital’s Institute of Living and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. “We are incredibly grateful to The Starbucks Foundation for this generous grant,” said David Fichandler, senior director of operational coordination, integration, and excellence for Hartford Hospital. “This funding will enable us to further enhance our services and reach more patients in need. With the support of this grant, we can provide an even greater variety of nutritious foods tailored to our patients’ specific health conditions, ultimately improving their overall health and well-being.” The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program supports grassroots, community-led nonprofit organizations through catalytic investments in the form of grants. Neighborhood Grants also help build sustained local impact and inspire increased partner (employee) engagement with nonprofit organizations that work in their communities. “Our partners (employees) know their communities best, and have shared great insights about the organizations helping to uplift others in their neighborhoods, from supporting youth and families to fighting hunger and promoting environmental stewardship,” said Alicia Vermaele, executive director of The Starbucks Foundation. “Through our latest round of Neighborhood Grants, we’re proud to support local organizations nominated by Starbucks partners who make our communities stronger.” Since 2019, more than 13,000 grants have been awarded to local organizations, amounting to more than $20 million. Food4Health was selected from among 33,000 nominations submitted by Starbucks partners earlier this year. 🙏

Say hello to Amina Weiland, MS, CDP 陳勉蘭, Resource Coordinator at the Center for Healthy Aging! 🤗 She received her Master of Science in Healthcare Management and was a part of the Public Health track. "Recognizing the importance of higher education, I set a model for my children. Hartford HealthCare's tuition assistance program gave me the peace of mind to focus on learning and relieved the financial burden of paying for education to balance household expenses and tuition,” Weiland said. She said in her upbringing, gender inequity was a stark reality. Her grandparents, echoing societal norms, used to say, "Girls do not need to be educated; they will marry one day." This mindset meant that access to higher education was not a priority in her family. That fueled Weiland’s mindset to pursue higher education. “Professional development can provide networking opportunities to meet new people within our industry and make new connections. These opportunities can lead to new exposure to mentorship and support, which may provide the next stepping stone in my career.” 👏
