New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity is seeking emergency relief funds to help 140 homebuyers stay in their homes amid soaring insurance costs, hurricane repairs, and pandemic-related income losses. Despite our great success in building and financing almost 800 homes since 1983, Habitat's low-income buyers now face foreclosure. Executive Director Marguerite Oestreicher is appealing for $2 million from foundations and the City of New Orleans to provide immediate relief and counseling. "These families are the backbone of our economy and culture," she emphasized, highlighting the dire need for support. https://lnkd.in/gTJj5EVY

About us
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. NOAHH builds new houses in partnership with sponsors, volunteers, communities, and homeowner families to eliminate poverty housing in the New Orleans area while serving as a catalyst to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Since its inception in 1983 NOAHH has built 450 new homes for low-income families in need of adequate shelter (as of 7/1/11). NOAHH plans to continue to build homes in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Plaquemines Parishes.

We too are thrilled about our Pride Build partnership with Entergy, and to have Sandra Diggs-Miller on our Board of Directors! As Sandra highlighted, New Orleans Habitat empowers hardworking families to purchase affordable, safe, and sustainable homes. With rising insurance costs and property taxes, our work together is vital.
Vice President of External Affairs at Entergy | Advocate for Stakeholder Engagement & Sustainability | Litigation Pro Turned Strategic Leader
I'm proud to share that I’m serving on the Greater New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity board and thrilled about our recent Pride Build partnership with Entergy in honor of Pride Month! To be clear, Habitat for Humanity is NOT a home giveaway program. This awesome organization plays a crucial role in our communities by helping hardworking families build and finance safe, affordable homes. Every homeowner is required to provide sweat equity in the construction of their home, ensuring they are deeply invested in their future. With rising insurance costs and property taxes creating significant challenges for low-income families, it’s vital that we continue working together to make homeownership achievable. I firmly believe that through our collective efforts, we can make a real difference. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Pride Build and all who support this vital cause. Let’s continue to uplift our community and create a more equitable future for all. Special recognition to Ann Clayton Chamberlain Board President, and Margaret Oestreicher Executive Director, for your tireless leadership. You rock!

Rising Oaks is our largest project yet, featuring 154 homes and dedicated senior housing. While providing resilient, community-focused living, Rising Oaks will be open to higher income brackets to counter soaring insurance and construction costs. A bold step towards adapting to today's housing challenges! https://lnkd.in/gUwYMnvz
Rising Oaks is Habitat for Humanity’s biggest project yet. It’s also its most expensive.
