As we enjoyed our weekend, many in the security community sighed in incredulity as we reached the one-year anniversary of Congress failing to reauthorize the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (#CFATs). HSToday's Executive Editor, Kristina Tanasichuk, had the opportunity to sit down with one of CFATs strongest advocates, Kelly Murray from Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency #CISA to talk about the impacts of playing politics with chemical security. Right now many might not think CFATS matters (in honesty you're probably not thinking about it at all), but so many understand how much it does. The #Bhopal disaster in India back in 1984 killed upwards of 20,000 people - not a terrorism incident - but an extreme lesson of the deadly power of #chemicals released near a city. "On April 16, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced more than $1.8 billion in funding for eight fiscal year 2024 preparedness grant programs. These announcements are widely known, broadly disseminated, and make a measurable difference to the safety and security of our nation.
