In our last post, we discussed the fifth key to success for navigating government contracts and grants: developing your capture strategy. The next step is to go back and re-read the solicitations/program requirements. To use your time effectively, check that your organization’s value propositions match or exceed the solicitation requirements. Key requirements to note include eligible entities, scope of work, geographic location (if applicable), application process and documentation requirements, award type and amount, special set-asides or preferences for type of awardee, and the overall priorities and goals of the government entity issuing the solicitation. Pro tip: highlight and color code key requirements by category, importance, and/or type of requirement. Then, review the key requirements against your organization’s strengths to ensure your organization’s capabilities and value propositions match and preferably exceed the requirements. In our last post, we discussed the fourth key to success for navigating government contracts and grants: building and maintaining your network. Your next step is to develop a capture strategy. Here’s how to proceed: ✅ Step one: Understand your organization’s key strengths, capacity, and capabilities. Specify your strategy to align with the relevant government agency’s’ goals, priorities, and trends in contract or grant awards. ✅ Step two: Conduct a competitive analysis to determine your peers in this space and how your organization can stay ahead of your competition. ✅ Step three: Monitor relevant government agency’ goals and priorities to ensure alignment with these objectives and create a regular cadence of benchmarks and check-ins to ensure alignment and continuous progress. In our last post, we discussed the third key to success in navigating government contracts and grants: regularly searching for opportunities. Our next recommendation is to build and maintain your network in the government contracting and grants landscape. We advise that you build these relationships early and reinforce them often. Government officials generally have limited time and may not have the ability to meet during certain proposal periods. The best way to establish a reputation and rapport in the procurement space is through direct engagement with contracting and program offices, attending conferences, and industry events, and joining associations. Our team engages with government contracting and program officers every day, and we would be happy to develop and execute the right engagement strategy to accomplish your strategic goals.  You can reach us at [email protected]

The GTC 360° Advisors team had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Coalition for Food Security (CFS) Summit as a key partner and a member of CFS. The Summit brought together local farmers to recruit CFS farmers and educate minority-owned landowners and underserved farmers in Georgia. Participants listened to presentations from the USDA on the Climate Smart Commodities grant program and from Ponix, and FoodChain Technologies, Inc on how CFS is working with underserved farmers. We also had an opportunity to tour Ponix's pilot indoor farm. Local farmers heard from CFS’s inaugural farmers on their experience with Ponix's innovative hydroponic vertical farms and the positive impact of the CFS program. As part of the grant implementation, GTC 360° Advisors serves as a project partner on the USDA grant. Our team is developing a baseline of climate-smart practices and resulting GHG reductions. We will manage the development and approval of a first-ever carbon reduction methodology for indoor hydroponic farming with an established carbon registry to generate and trade carbon credits across CFS and beyond. We’re excited to continue partnering with the Coalition for Food Security!

In our last post, we discussed the second key to success in navigating government contracts and grants: registering your organization. Our next strategy is to ensure you stay informed about government procurement postings. This involves regularly searching for opportunities. 🔎 We recommend using websites like grants.gov or the System for Award Management (SAM).  You can set up filters based on factors like government departments and opportunity type. Identification codes like NAICS can also be helpful. You will be notified via email of new opportunities as they are posted. Then, you can review these alerts and results, and modify the alert as needed to further customize to your needs. We also recommend researching  reputable opportunity alert and identification systems (these usually require a subscription or similar paid plan). If you need any assistance, we are here to help. In our last post, we discussed the crucial first key to success in navigating government contracts and grants: clearly defining your objectives and goals. Once you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve in the government procurement space, it's time to delve deeper into the process -time to register your organization. Here’s a quick checklist to help you do that:  ✅ Obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) through the IRS website. ✅ Identify the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Codes that align with your business. ✅ Obtain a Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code. ✅ Register with the System for Award Management (SAM). ✅ Register with the certify.SBA.gov login service and explore SBA socioeconomic categories. (Eligibility can offer advantages in contracting.) For many business owners, pursuing government contracts and grants can be challenging. Because of this, we’re providing a series of posts to showcase our keys to success when navigating government contracts and grants. Below is our first installment on ‘Keys to Success’ in the Government marketplace for both contracts and grants. If you have government contracts and grants in sight, you’ll want to start by clearly defining your objectives and goals in the government procurement space. Determine what you want to achieve with government contracts or grants, such as providing a service, securing funding for research, or selling goods to the government. Once you’ve defined these goals, begin researching the federal, state, or local government agencies offering contracts and grants at the federal, state, or local levels.   Keep in mind that different agencies handle different types of projects and funding. If you need any assistance, my team and I would love to help. The best way to reach us is at [email protected].
