About us
Originally inspired by the Assessment in Ankylosing Spondylitis Working Group (ASAS), GRAPPA was formed in 2003. GRAPPA has pulled together many different groups, including preeminent researchers and thought-leaders in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and psoriasis (PsO). In 2015 a team of Patient Research Partners was added to round out our perspective. The idea was to form a consortium of rheumatologists, dermatologists, radiologists, epidemiologists, patient representatives and others who would like to contribute to the field of PsA. At the inaugural meeting in 2003, a consensus exercise started the group toward prioritizing domains of inquiry in PsA and PsO. Subsequent annual meetings have focused on identifying and initiating research projects, advancing standardized criteria for psoriatic arthritis registries, and developing treatment guidelines for PsA. GRAPPA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with offices in Seattle, WA and members from around the world. Today, more than 1000 thought-leaders participate in GRAPPA including rheumatologists, dermatologists, radiologists, geneticists, methodologists, epidemiologists, patient research partners, and biopharmaceutical industry representatives. Approximately 75 percent of our members live and work outside North America; creating a truly international effort.

Isaac Chang, a trainee from Hong Kong mentored by Lai Shan Tam, presented an abstract poster at the 2024 GRAPPA Annual Meeting and Trainee Symposium showing Secukinumab significantly improves Psoriatic Arthritis outcomes. After 1 year, patients on secukinumab showed reduced erosion progression, better partial erosion repair, and less enthesophyte growth compared to placebo. 🚀 Exciting Update in the Psoriatic Arthritis Difficult-to-Treat from GRAPPA 🚀 Our latest publication regarding the difficult-to-treat (D2T) and complex-to-manage (C2M) project from the GRAPPA initiative has been published: "Deciphering Difficult-to-Treat Psoriatic Arthritis (D2T-PsA): A GRAPPA Perspective from an International Survey of Healthcare Professionals" 📈 The study captures diverse viewpoints from rheumatologists and dermatologists across 47 countries, providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges in managing PsA. Key Insights: 1. Differentiating D2T-PsA and C2M-PsA: Our survey among 223 healthcare professionals reveals a strong consensus on the need to establish distinct definitions for D2T and C2M PsA. This differentiation is crucial for guiding precise and effective treatment strategies. 2. 🔍D2T-PsA and C2M-PsA, while related, are not mutually exclusive. D2T-PsA is seen as a subset within the broader C2M-PsA category, highlighting that it represents a truly treatment-refractory group needing distinct management approaches. 3. 🔬 90.5% of respondents support including objective signs of inflammation in the D2T-PsA definition, emphasizing the need for clinical, laboratory, and imaging assessments to guide treatment. 4.💡Treatment Failure Criteria: There are various opinions on treatment failure criteria, particularly regarding the number of therapies needed to classify PsA as D2T. This underscores the need for ongoing discussion to achieve a unified approach in the future. What This Means for Patients: By establishing clearer definitions for D2T and C2M PsA, we can better identify severe cases and tailor treatments to improve patient outcomes. This research emphasizes the importance of considering the entire health picture, including comorbidities and personal factors, to enhance the quality of life for those with PsA.
