Familiar with the United States Postal Service's sustainability goals? This summer, GreenBlue Executive Director Paul Nowak and SPC Director Olga Kachook met with U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to discuss and support the agency's sustainability targets. Earlier this year, USPS shared their ambitious goals to divert 75% of waste from landfills, increase recycled content in packaging to 74%, and increase packaging recyclability to 88%. We were happy to hear that they've already made progress on these and other goals—and that their efforts were recognized with a Presidential Federal Sustainability Award. As USPS participates in both the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and How2Recycle® (H2R) programs, we look forward to working with the agency to accelerate a Postal Service powered by sustainable packaging practices. A recent report by Avery Dennison and Retail Dive’s studioID shows that sustainability in packaging remains a top concern for leaders at consumer retail brands. Surveying 150 executives and decision-makers across the #CPG, #e-commerce, #pharmaceutical and #grocery industries, the study found that 87% of respondents said #packaging and #labeling are important to their company’s sustainability efforts, but challenges persist. The survey uncovers four key areas to focus efforts: 1️⃣ Provide more sustainable material options 2️⃣ Address cost and performance concerns with new materials 3️⃣ Lean into labeling innovations 4️⃣ Double down on your own sustainability initiatives We appreciate the inclusion of our How2Recycle® (H2R) and Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) programs in the report! https://ow.ly/6ZXI50SlRex

Calling all Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and How2Recycle® (H2R) members: It’s time to weigh in on the future of the How2Recycle label! As part of the SPC Design Collaborative’s work to refresh the How2Recycle label design, we’re seeking input from our member communities. Our teams have researched and designed concepts for the label—and now, we’re eager to hear your feedback on those concepts and the effectiveness of their messaging. 🔗 Login to your member portal to take the survey before it closes tomorrow evening: 🔵 SPC member login: https://lnkd.in/eJuFH-_Y ⬛ How2Recycle login: https://lnkd.in/eW8djgeA #Recycling #Packaging #SustainablePackaging #PackagingDesign #Recyclability

Will you be a factor in the future of the How2Recycle label? Since 2008, the How2Recycle® (H2R) label has grown from its roots in the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) to become the most recognized on-pack disposal instruction for consumers across the U.S. and Canada. Now, as we refresh the design of the How2Recycle label, we’re going back to how it all started: We're asking SPC and How2Recycle members to share their expertise and weigh in on the future of the label. If you’re a member of SPC or How2Recycle, take the survey and give feedback on refreshed label design concepts. 🔗 Login to your member dashboard to take the survey today: 🔵 SPC member login: https://lnkd.in/eJuFH-_Y ⬛ How2Recycle login: https://lnkd.in/eW8djgeA #Recycling #Packaging #SustainablePackaging #PackagingDesign #Recyclability

EA - Earth Action's report, 'Moving Towards Outcomes-Based Financial Mechanisms for Waste Prevention,' lays out a financial approach which rewards #plastic #waste #reduction, helping to address the funding deficiency that often stalls efforts to tackle plastic #pollution. GreenBlue Org's Recycled Material Standard (#RMS) presents an application of Outcomes-Based Financing for Waste Prevention (#OBWP) through Attributes of Recycled Content (#ARCs), a means for brands to invest directly in expanding #recycling capacity and capability. "The global systems that manage plastic waste and prevent #pollution are unfortunately at an early stage of an urgent modernization process. While the changes driven by regulation slowly come online, we must embrace solutions that fill the gap with rapid catalyzation. What’s most exciting about the OBWP framework is how new opportunities for plastic #action are grounded in methodologies that have successfully scaled other #climate #solutions, such as renewable energy. This allows for instant adoption and high confidence for replicability of success. GreenBlue uses a #collaborative approach to build functional tools that change the system dynamics for a sustainable materials future. We designed the ARC program to expand new capacity in urgently needed recycling processing while allowing parties across #supply #chains to quantify their accountability for #downstream plastic waste. This virtuous cycle, like the other outcome based finance programs, complements other drivers like regulation for an comprehensive toolkit of full lifecycle plastic waste action. We applaud Earth Action in preparing a compelling case for integrating these truly groundbreaking solutions." - Ross Bergman, Director, Recycled Material Standard https://ow.ly/S36x50S0gT2
