Today, Rebuild by Design launched the Atlas of Accountability, a brand new mapping tool that takes a county-by-county look at which communities have been impacted by designated extreme weather disasters. We found that: - 100% of states and 91% of congressional districts have had at least 1 federal disaster declaration. - of the districts with 10 disasters, two-thirds are represented by Republicans and one-third by Democrats. Just as extreme weather shows no partisanship, neither did post-disaster aid: - Over $100B in federal funds were awarded to districts all across the country - The states that received the most funds per capita were both blue and red: LA, NY, NJ, ND, and VT As the #ClimateCrisis continues to pose threats to our country’s most vulnerable, we hope Atlas of Accountability is used by communities and lawmakers to develop #Bipartisan policy and to build resilient infrastructure that lasts for years to come. 📣 URBAN FUTURE FORUM RECAP 📣 In the spring of 2023, UFL was awarded a grant from IN2 (the Wells Fargo Innovation Incubator, co-founded and co-administered by NREL) to host an event bringing together community based organizations (CBOs) focusing on climate and/or #workforce, #startups, #investors, and channel to market partners. With this grant, we hosted our first ever #UrbanFutureForum on June 25 as an attempt to forge meaningful connections and enhance transparent communication between #innovators and #communities prior to #deployment. This #Juneteenth, we honored the historical emancipation of enslaved Black Americans and reflect on the ongoing journey toward justice and equity. ✊🏿 At GCF, we recognize that the fight for #racialjustice is intricately linked with environmental and economic justice, reflected in our shared work to empower Black communities disproportionately affected by historical and present-day injustices. This past Saturday, we held Juneteenth celebrations at each of our Eco-Hubs across NYCHA, also coinciding with the start of our farmstand season for residents. In addition to activities including mural painting, arts crafts, jump rope double dutch, other games and snacks, residents enjoyed fresh tastings and took home organic produce grown by Cohort 27. 🍉🌱 Thank you to all of our NYCHA community members who were able to celebrate with us this weekend and we hope you celebrated yesterday in your own communities! Let us stand in solidarity and recognize the profound contributions of Black community members, activists, and environmental stewards in shaping a world where everyone has equitable access to a healthy environment and thriving communities. Thank you for working with us in addressing systemic inequities in access to healthy food and green space, economic opportunity, and overall wellbeing for BIPOC community members through our work – locally-driven solutions across the city. Together, let’s sow seeds of change and cultivate a future where justice, equality, and prosperity can thrive for generations to come.
