This week, our team is at the #SelectUSASummit, engaging with global companies that are seeking to invest in the U.S. Josh Davis, MBA, CEcD, PSLO, participated in a panel discussing economic development organizations and their roles in the local economy. It was a full house with attendees standing in the wings! It was a pleasure to hear from Casey Gilchrist, Marcos Delgado and Laura Lombard. “The main takeaway for international companies wanting to grow here is to know what you want and to be willing to take risks, as part of a long history of peoples coming to the New World. It is in the character of Americans to help those who seek to help themselves and others. Bring some of your own capital, and never hesitate to ask for help. Organizations like Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing invest in EDOs like GSP to ensure you arrive on our shores and thrive,” said Josh Davis. #econdev #UncommonThinkersWelcome #SelectUSA

On the second day of the SelectUSA Seattle Spinoff, Greater Seattle Partners hosted a dynamic tour in Snohomish County for global businesses eager to invest in the Greater Seattle Region. Our morning kicked off with the Port of Everett industry tour led by Port Chief Executive Officer Lisa L. who talked about the region’s import and export industry and shared valuable insights into the economic development of the area. We visited the Tulalip Resort Casino for a tour, along with a special performance of drumming and singing. In the afternoon, we had a fascinating visit to Boeing’s City of Everett, WA factory. The sheer scale of aircraft production left everyone in awe. This was followed by a tour of Lyell Immunopharma in City of Bothell Washington. Lyell is a clinical-stage T-cell reprogramming company advancing a diverse pipeline of cell therapies for patients with solid tumors. Our region thrives when global businesses find a home here. #UncommonThinkersWelcome #InvestmentOpportunities #GlobalBusiness #SelectUSASummit #EconomicDevelopment Josh Davis, MBA, CEcD, PSLO, Robert Payne, Brian Surratt, Rebecca Lovell, Jack Pedlow

Our journey through innovation and culture included the Port of Tacoma, Youth Marine Foundation, University of Washington Tacoma, and the Tacoma Art Museum, each offering unique perspectives and opportunities. Today, our event, "Cascadia – Opportunities and Synergies," highlighted the Cascadia region's dynamic growth and collaborative potential. This area, encompassing parts of British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, boasts a combined GDP of $600 billion and is experiencing rapid population growth. Here's what we discussed: High-Speed Rail Development: The panel emphasized accelerating conversations and actions around implementing high-speed rail in the Cascadia region. They explored how this infrastructure could position Cascadia ahead of other North American mega-regions, enhancing connectivity and economic growth. Economic Benefits from FIFA and Beyond: Panelists discussed the significant economic opportunities the upcoming FIFA events will bring to businesses in the Cascadia region. They also highlighted the long-term benefits that could extend beyond the event, such as increased tourism, improved infrastructure, and strengthened international visibility. Impact on Smaller Towns: The discussion acknowledged the importance of ensuring that the benefits of Cascadia collaboration reach towns beyond the major cities. By focusing on inclusive growth, the panel suggested integrating rural and smaller urban areas into the broader regional development strategies. Geopolitical and Electoral Impacts: The panel considered the potential impacts of geopolitical shifts and elections in both the U.S. and Canada on the goals and objectives of the Cascadia region. They emphasized the importance of maintaining strong, adaptable strategies to navigate political changes, such as a possible incoming Trump administration. Learning from Global Partnerships: Exploring global examples, the panel examined other cross-country regions that have successfully implemented similar partnerships. This comparative analysis provided insights into best practices and innovative approaches that could be adapted for the Cascadia context. The event underscored the importance of collaboration among Cascadia partners to address shared challenges and seize opportunities for sustainable growth. The region aims to enhance economic performance, infrastructure, sustainability, and overall liveability by fostering dialogue and cooperation, building a prosperous future for all its communities. The event featured a panel discussion with prominent leaders: Chris Gregoire, CEO of Challenge Seattle and former Governor of Washington State Jacquie Griffiths, ICD.D, President of Invest Vancouver Laura Jones, President and CEO of the BC Business Council (BCBC) Rachel Smith, President and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce Brian Surratt, President and CEO of Greater Seattle Partners
Vancouver, Seattle and Portland has more in common than our wetcoast weather. The Cascadia Corridor is a Mega Region with 10 million people and a combined GDP of $600B that shares similar economies, lifestyles, challenges and opportunities. This week we welcomed our friends to the south to find ways to build on our strengths. From our extraordinary talent in sectors like technology and lifesciences, to the green economy, we are leveraging opportunities to benefit the region. We might be separated by a border, but we are stronger together. With the potential of high speed rail someday, the opportunities are endless for this region. Thank you to KPMG and Microsoft for hosting this important conversation with Rachel Smith, Brian Surratt, Laura Jones and Jacquie Griffiths, ICD.D.
