A leap forward in microplastic reduction! We're thrilled to announce new funding to Wayne State University and a large team of scientists and community partners to mobilize a Great Lakes-focused microplastic action network. This project will give communities new tools – including an innovative open-source “library” – that will enable them to identify microplastic sources and test different interventions. An endowment that launches innovative solutions to improve the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem. #LeadersWanted
About us
The Great Lakes Protection Fund's mission is to identify, demonstrate and promote regional action to enhance the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem. The governors of the Great Lakes states created the Fund in 1989 to help them protect and restore their shared natural resource. The Fund is the first private, permanent endowment created to benefit a specific ecosystem. The governors designed the Fund to catalyze the continuous development of new technologies, innovative methods, and practical regional actions to improve the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem.

Last week, Moonshot Missions had the honor of visiting the Oconto County Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oconto, WI, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to discuss rising lake levels and unprecedented weather. Located at the mouth of Lake Michigan, the plant excels in maintaining exceptional water quality, and the job they are doing is nothing short of impressive. However, the region faces challenges from recent unpredictable storms. Moonshot Missions is grateful for the opportunity to discuss climate resilience and the proactive measures being taken to preserve the Great Lakes’ water quality. Moonshot’s work in helping to preserve the water quality in the Great Lakes is made possible by the Great Lakes Protection Fund.
