Dear Gould Farm friends, As summer begins, we look forward to a season of simple joys at the Farm—harvesting produce from the garden, tending flower beds, hiking and swimming at the local state forest, walking to Roadside on Saturday's for an iced coffee, and rotating our happy cows out on pasture. This time of year reminds us to rest and find peace amidst life's stresses, often outdoors. June was filled with much to celebrate, from the Roadside Store & Café ribbon cutting to our annual 5k run to the insightful Residential & Community Treatment of Psychosis Conference we hosted on-site alongside Ellenhorn and the Erikson Institute at Austen Riggs. Each event showcased the value of teamwork and the perseverance of our staff, guests, volunteers, and external partners. In this July newsletter, we keep things short! You will find: • A reminder about our open clinical director position • Links to videos of the three presentations given at the Residential & Community Treatment of Psychosis Conference. • Profiles of two of our dedicated staff members Read here:https://conta.cc/4cJWYIX Happy summer! Mental illness is an issue that affects hundreds of thousands of Canadians, and yet our current healthcare system often falls short of providing the comprehensive, long-term support that many individuals need. Eli’s Place aims to fill this gap by drawing inspiration from successful models like Gould Farm in Massachusetts, which has set a benchmark for quality mental health care through a holistic and integrated approach for over 100 years. 🥞 ☕️ The first Saturday of full service at our newly re-opened Roadside Store & Cafe was a success! Since 1978, Roadside Store and Cafe has been a fixture of Monterey, Massachusetts and an important facet of the therapeutic work program at Gould Farm. Roadside is more than just a place to get your morning coffee and eggs; it's a beacon of community and social enterprise. We proudly source products locally - many of our products coming right from the Gould Farm dairy and beef herds, gardens and greenhouses, bakery, and maple sugarbushes - creating flavorful dishes that celebrate the bounty of our community efforts. Our space fosters opportunity for connection, where locals and travelers gather to share stories, forging friendships and a sense of belonging. Roadside Store and Cafe isn't just a place to eat; it's a catalyst for social change, promoting inclusivity, dignity, and empowerment for all who come in our door and sit with us at the table. Our hours are Wed-Sat from 7:30-2:00. See you soon! 🍳 🥓 📷 Photo by Paul John, Gould Farmer and todays barista. Photo is of Stephanie McMahon, Gould Farm outreach director, who was helping wait tables for the day. Both Steph and Paul John and several other Gould Farm community members were pitching in, lending a helping hand to the regular Roadside Pancake Crew. Many hands make light work! Each year, Gould Farm prioritizes attending select conferences to cultivate essential relationships within the mental health treatment community. One such conference is the IECA Independent Educational Consultants Association, taking place this year in Connecticut, conveniently close to home. Representing Gould Farm are Tamara McKernan, our admissions director, and Liz Halla-Mattingly, MSW, our transition counselor. They have enjoyed reconnecting with American Residential Treatment Association (ARTA) colleagues and engaging with therapeutic consultants who play a crucial role in assisting families seeking treatment for their loved ones. Navigating the complexities of our fragmented mental health care system can be daunting, particularly when it comes to accessing residential treatment in a timely manner. Therapeutic consultants provide invaluable guidance in this process, helping families understand their options by facilitating connections with programs like Gould Farm. We deeply appreciate the important work they do.
