Google Code Next

We are thrilled to announce that The Station has welcomed its first tenants— Detroit youth in Google’s Code Next program! As a leader in innovation and technology, the Code Next program ushers in a new era for The Station. This immersive computer science program focuses on helping Black, Latinx, and Indigenous high school students in Detroit pursue careers in tech. Google Code Next will anchor The Station’s youth programming floor, marking the latest milestone in Google’s founding partnership with Michigan Central and its ongoing commitment to Detroit. It also is a key piece of Michigan Central’s commitment to creating opportunity for Detroit residents and to connecting them to the in-demand careers of today and of the future. Since officially opening its doors in September 2023, Code Next’s Detroit lab—Google’s first in the Midwest—has enrolled approximately 100 students across two cohorts, providing coaches, state-of-the-art technical equipment, and content ranging from Javascript programming to user experience design. Welcome, Google Code Next! We are excited to see the creativity and innovation that these talented young minds will bring to Michigan Central.
