Today I had pleasure of sharing our new mural with the Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana board of directors. I met Theoplis Smith III when he worked as an electronics sales associate at the Southtown Walmart in 2006. I was on the management team that opened that Supercenter so many years ago. Back then he was drawing on old cardboard boxes…and painting an image of Sam Walton on the break room wall. It is exciting to see the artist he has become. We had a great time watching the work unfold on our board room wall a little bit at a time. Phresh Laundry gave us “we owe each other our excellence” as a reminder of who we are at Goodwill and how we all serve each other in society in various ways. Thank you Theo for blessing us with your work!

Tomorrow at this time our first Goodwill fundraiser in at least three decades will be underway. Kudos to the Goodwill team for their hard work decorating the lobby of the Fort Wayne Community Center. Thanks to everyone who has purchased tickets and/or donated items for our auction. “This is a service organization that’s designed to help people.” Thanks to the team at Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana, Inc. for giving us a tour of their Brooklyn Avenue store and warehouse! Established in 1937, the local Goodwill is more than just a thrift store that saves your clothing from the landfill. They turn your donations into job opportunities, often for people who have barriers to employment. Goodwill employs 250 people across northeast Indiana and oversees eight stores, five in #FortWayne. AND, among all local Goodwill chapters in America, they’re #1 for e-commerce as a percentage of sales! THANK YOU to Kevin Morse and the crew at Goodwill for the hospitality and for all you do for the community!

Goodwill is hosting its first fundraising event in decades. Since Halloween is our retail operation's strongest shopping season, we are hosting a Halloween Costume Ball including a costume contest in October. The details are outlined below for the date, time and location. We are extremely excited to have Out of a Jam's "Well Served" program as our caterer this year. Out of a Jam is a multi-faceted nonprofit with a vision to nurture and educate youth...with a plan to save overstocked foods to feed the less fortunate and a program to guide students toward a successful path in life. It will be an evening of fun, costumes, great food and drink...and a chance for everyone to learn more about Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana. Costumes are highly encouraged but not required to attend. Hope to see you all there!! Be sure to scan the QR code to register! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me via the info provided next to the QR code.

Another beautiful day for a cookout. Today the managent team is cooking for the Goodwill staff at our Glenbrook Commons store. This is our 9th Friday visiting staff and enjoying the outdoors…as well as VP Randy’s cooking. Next week wraps up our summer of food and fun with a cookout for our Corporate office. Thanks to our entire staff for the work they do each day to fund our Goodwill mission!
