On Friday, we celebrated #AlsDay, a day of service in honor of our founder, Al Golin, by sharing information about the importance of protecting our skin from the sun’s harmful rays. In support of the American Academy of Dermatology’s mission to #PracticeSafeSun, our team took to the streets of each of our offices. Throughout the course of the day, Goliners handed out sunscreen and talked to the public about the importance of sun protection in preventing skin damage. We’re proud to support the work of our incredible #clients in efforts like these!

Words have immense power in healthcare. A recent JAMA Internal Medicine study reveals that stigmatizing language in medical records is linked to diagnostic errors and delays, especially among Black patients and those with housing instability. In our latest article, KIMBERLY B. uncovers strategies that you can use today to promote equitable healthcare for all. #HealthEquity #HealthcareCommunications Read the article: https://lnkd.in/greqmxWr

There's no doubt about it, #SkinCancerIsSerious. We understand the importance of raising awareness and sharing resources for the millions of those affected by #SkinCancer and are driven each day to strengthen the industry that cares for us and the ones we love.    This #SkinCancerAwarenessMonth, Danielle Hawkes Donnelly reflects on her experience navigating this disease and how #HealthCommunications can play a vital role in inspiring action and, ultimately, saving lives. #WhyWeWork

If I hadn’t read about the importance of getting checked for skin cancer in Seventeen magazine when I was a teenager, I might not be here today. I started seeing a dermatologist for annual skin checks in my early 20s and I was diagnosed with my first skin cancer by age 35 and melanoma at 37. Thankfully it was caught very early on, and when detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99%. Since then, quarterly skin checks by my dermatologist and biopsies of any areas that look questionable have kept me healthy. There are countless misconceptions about skin cancer but the most surprising fact I’ve learned is that only 20-30% of melanomas are found in existing moles, while 70-80% arise on apparently normal skin, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. While it’s important to keep an eye on any changes in your skin and get them checked out right away, it’s critical to schedule regular checks even if you haven’t noticed any changes. Of the 7 skin cancers I’ve had treated, only one looked suspicious to me. My experience is a powerful reminder that the work our Golin Health team has done with the American Academy of Dermatology (#client) – driving awareness of #MelanomaMonday and skin cancer on TODAY.com and CBS News affiliates across the country – can be life-saving. Knowing that learning about skin cancer from a media outlet I trusted drove me to action inspires me to develop communications that reach the people that need crucial health information where they are. Whether we’re communicating about a rare disease or a condition like skin cancer that impacts millions every year, helping everyone understand their health risks and when to see a doctor is my goal as a healthcare communicator. #WhyWeWork #SkinCancerAwarenessMonth #SkinCancerIsSerious #PracticeSafeSun

The vision behind this year’s theme for #WorldHealthDay — “My health, my right”— is foundational to the work we do at Golin Health. Around the world, the right and access to #healthcare is being challenged and we believe that it is the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services, education and information. Working to bring health within reach for more isn’t just something we say, it’s at the heart of all we do.   Across our Golin offices globally, we continue to collaborate fearlessly and bring life-changing work to the health care space. The pandemic was a catalyst for many businesses to reimagine not only where and when we work, but also how we work. Two years ago in the midst of COVID, our global president of healthcare Cori McKeever shared a video with me of Anderson Cooper visiting a business in suburban Chicago staffed entirely by adults with autism who use their immense talent to provide operational support to a variety of businesses around the world. This company, AutonomyWorks, is on a mission to change the way the world views people with autism, who can struggle to find typical employment. Cori asked me what I thought about integrating AutonomyWorks’ associates into our workstreams, and now here we are two years later announcing the impact of our partnership thus far. This announcement is personal to me, as I have twin cousins who were diagnosed with autism as toddlers and now are in their 30’s. While they are very different from each other, both are extremely intelligent and have a genuine desire for using their remarkable affinity for learning and mastering large amounts of knowledge and skills to benefit others, and I love them very much. We couldn’t have gotten this partnership off the ground without the steadfast support and tenacity of our AutonomyWorks partners, including founder/CEO Dave Friedman. I'd also like to recognize all of the associates who touch Golin’s client work on a daily basis. I got to know several of them when I visited their office and I came away from that visit so touched at hearing their personal stories and hearing the difference they are making across a multitude of industries. Thank you to all of you at AutonomyWorks, thank you to PRWeek for covering this story, and let’s keep changing the way the world sees people with autism together! https://lnkd.in/eTcSgxyB
