"The work to end slavery is not complete." Dr. Gina M. Fromer, PhD, our President and CEO, emphasized the ongoing fight to end forced labor during yesterday's rally at City Hall in support of Proposition 6, which aims to abolish this practice in California's prisons and jails. Elected Officials, Supervisor Dean Preston and Assemblymember Matt Haney along with community members came together to confront this issue. Andra Gadson, our Field Manager for the Reverend Cecil Williams Ambassador program, shared, "Throughout my time in prison, I received extra time and was written up for refusing mandatory jobs." His experience highlights the urgent need to end exploitation and how rehabilitation is critical for allowing formerly incarcerated people to return to society. Voting YES on Prop 6 is essential for creating a humane system prioritizing rehabilitation over exploitation. Vote YES on 6! #RehabilitationOverExploitation #VoteYesOnProp6 #GlideInAction

Today, we celebrate Lizzie Glide, whose vision brought The Mary Elizabeth Inn to life, laying the foundation for what Glide Memorial Church is today. Her commitment to supporting those in need continues through our work—serving meals, providing housing assistance, and offering health services and substance dependency recovery programs. Through our ongoing advocacy and hands-on support, we continue Lizzie’s mission of standing up for justice, treating everyone with dignity, and spreading compassion.
