Today is the final day of #GDConnect2024. While we’re sad it’s almost over, we couldn’t ask for a better pair of sessions to end the week, hosted by Perigee Fund and UpMetrics. Then, join us in the main ballroom for the final address, awards, and to hear where #GDConnect2025 will be hosted!

In the grantmaking world, when there’s change (and there’s going to be change), grants management is almost always involved. Yesterday at #GDConnect, I got a chance to share a little about how Trellis Foundation is preparing to become a private foundation and how we’ve used features in our GMS, GivingData, to improve our processes as we grow. — Roberto Cremonini and the GivingData team are very persuasive, and I somehow volunteered to present on a topic I wanted to learn more about. So, I found two amazing humans who are smarter than me to present with. Thank you to Raegan Nicholson and Katlin Stansfield for helping me look like I knew what I was talking about. I loved learning from you as we created our presentation. Also, thank you to Kyla Kasharian for her support and photography skills. Here’s hoping all our planes leave Atlanta on time today despite Helene.

A very special thank you to Victoria Flint from the Mat-Su Health Foundation, who helped us all at the GivingData #GDConnect conference understand how to go beyond the tier 1 land acknowledgement.

At #GDConnect we shed tears of joy. Meet Alf Gracombe, the man who created something wonderful and put it out into the world. As the founder of GivingData he led the company for 14 years, shaping its vision and growth. We were fortunate to have Alf as one of our implementation managers. Lena Lukonen and I first met Alf in 2017, when he had only ten minutes to spare. Those ten minutes turned into an hour and a half, and the rest, as they say, is history. Alf’s dedication to understanding not just our organization but also our team as individuals was truly refreshing. To him, we weren’t just potential clients or another business opportunity. We were people, and both Alf and Roberto Cremonini wanted to ensure that the potential partnership would be mutually beneficial. Over the years, through many conversations, missed lunches (if you’ve ever been caught in a brainstorming session with me, you’ll understand), and tough discussions about the limitations of technology, my respect for Alf has only deepened. When we discussed his decision to step down as CEO, his reasoning further solidified that respect. He loved the company so much, and having taken it as far as he could, he recognized it was time to step aside before burnout set in. Alf is the kind of leader who has the vision to see the future and the humility to know when it’s time to let someone else take the reins. That ability to lead with foresight, to step back for the good of the company, and to allow others to carry the torch without being pushed, is truly admirable. Thank you, Alf, for creating something wonderful and sharing it with the world.
