About us
Girls Who Invest (“GWI”) is a non-profit organization founded in April 2015 dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry. Our benchmark for success is to have 30% of the world’s investable capital managed by women by 2030. This goal is in sharp contrast to 2014, a year in which less than 10% of the world’s investable capital was managed by women. We will focus on education, industry outreach, accessibility and career placement to achieve our mission. At GWI, we aim to create programs to inspire and support young women to become tomorrow’s leaders. By completing GWI’s rigorous program, talented and motivated women will be well prepared to enter the industry across all asset classes including public and private equity, fixed income, credit, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure, and to be skilled allocators of capital.

In a piece touching on the role of mentorship in some of the honorees' paths, Heather Perceval, GWI Head of Programs & Career Advancement, reflects on Katherine's amazing ability to find opportunity in every moment and the importance of “what if” statements to think even bigger. We’re so proud to work with these trailblazing women! https://lnkd.in/e64A23iQ

In their 10th annual Women in the Workplace report, McKinsey & Company and Lean In found that while women make up 29% of C-suite positions in 2024 – up from just 17% in 2015 – women remain underrepresented across corporate leadership. At the current pace of progress, it would take 48 years for the representation of women in senior leadership to reflect their share of the US population. Girls Who Invest is committed to boosting long-term retention of diverse talent by providing women and non-binary investors with access to the support and mentorship they need to reach the C-suite. We’re proud to follow Emily van der Veen’s journey at Vista Equity Partners, a GWI Leadership Circle partner firm. Emily, from your time in our SIP Class of 2020 to your first internship in private equity, it’s an honor to have you as part of the GWI community!
At Vista, we celebrate diversity of thought and background, believing that regardless of your previous experience, we can set you up for success in the world of enterprise software and alternative investments. Our internship program brings together young people from various walks of life, merging different backgrounds, cultures, skills, and experiences. This diversity provides new insights and perspectives that help us evolve and move forward. Take Emily van der Veen, for example. Initially on a pre-med track, Emily was introduced to Vista through Girls Who Invest. Her summer internship at Vista provided exposure to private equity, equipping her with valuable skills and the confidence to transition into a full-time analyst role. Learn more about Emily's career path below.
