Building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
About us
Courage. Confidence. Character. These are the cornerstones of positive girl leadership, and something that we, the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada, are proud to represent in our community, and have been for more than 70 years. We serve, encourage, and engage troops, volunteers, alumnae, supporters, donors, community partners, cookie lovers, and above all, girls. Our council area encompasses 96,000 square miles and 23 counties in northern Nevada and eastern California. That’s Alturas to Tahoe to Bishop, Ely to Elko, and everywhere in between. As we continue our journey into the second century of Girl Scouting, our council focuses on five areas with a fresh approach to what girls do in Girl Scouts, how they do it, and how they benefit – now, and throughout their lives. These focus areas include: Healthy Living, STEM, Financial Literacy, Environmental Leadership and Responsibility, and Community Service. Join us in growing the girl leadership movement! www.girlscouts.org/join

🌟Gold Award Spotlight 🌟 A huge shoutout to Quill Cooke for his incredible gold award project, educating the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District a lesson in becoming Gender Befrienders. Quill is a testament to how impactful gold awards can be for the community. He not only used his time to teach educators the importance of being allies to LGBTQ students but also provided age-appropriate reading materials to schools about gender identity along with so much more! Check out Quill’s project in our News Room! https://lnkd.in/gdPaxviH #GoldAwardee #GirlScouts #LGBTQ #GSSN

In Fall 2023, we welcomed our first social work intern, Courtney Johnson, in partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno! Courtney has been an incredible asset, providing mental health support to our Council-Led Troop Program by helping girls navigate conflict, raising awareness about local resources, and promoting self-care strategies. This flagship program has been a huge success, and we're excited to continue growing with more social work students in the future. Read more about Courtney's impact on our blog! https://ow.ly/RcgN50SkkXx #Flagship #UNR #GSSN #SocialWork
