With all the craziness in the world, sometimes you need a heartfelt story to cleanse your timeline and refresh your spirit. Enter the Burkhart Family.We had the honor and pleasure of hosting three generations, which have a long history and affinity for all things cars. The occasion for this encounter was no less impressive: to celebrate Fred Burkhart's 90th birthday, his son John wanted to capture a photo with both his dad and his son, Cy. And there's a backstory behind the car as well. Fred's car was a gift from his wife ten years earlier for his 80th birthday; though full disclosure, it was closer to his 82nd birthday because it required a prolonged search to find one that was close to the car that Fred owned as a young man. About us
The Mission of the Gilmore Car Museum is to tell the history of America through the automobile. We foster experiences which connect people with the history, heritage, and social impact of the automobile through collecting, preserving, and interpreting its story. The Gilmore Car Museum is North America’s largest auto museum with nearly 400 vehicles on display and over 189,000 square feet of exhibit space. The Museum’s 90-acre Historic Campus features numerous vintage structures including a restored and fully-functioning 1941 Silk City Diner, a recreated 1930s Shell Station, six onsite Partner Museums, and so much more. Exhibits: Today, nearly 400 vehicles from all eras are displayed with a total combined collection of over 500 automobiles. The oldest car on exhibit is an 1899 Locomobile Steam Car The one of-a-kind enlarged movie set from the 1967 Disney feature film, “The Gnomemobile”, and a 1930 Rolls Royce were personal gifts from Walt Disney There are over 100 vintage pedal cars on display The Museum houses one of the largest displays of automotive mascots and name badges in North America, with more than 1,500 items on display Collections on the Historic Campus: Classic Car Club of America Museum Pierce-Arrow Foundation Museum Midwest Miniatures Museum The H.H. The most Instagram-able place on our campus. Throwin' it back to simpler times with our authentic re-creation of the 1930s Shell Gas Station Exhibit. Complete with a vast display of memorabilia from the days when gas was only 18 cents a gallon. Museum Hours: Summer Season Monday-Friday: 9:00am – 5:00pm Saturday & Sunday: 9:00am – 6:00pm

On Wednesday, May 29th the Garage Works conducted its annual Year End Celebration. The event marked the end of our best year yet in Garage Works History, finishing work on almost 30 vehicles, spending 100’s of hours in the shop teaching and learning automotive restoration techniques through hands on effort. Congratulations to our two excellent seniors this year: Damien Green and Ciarra Rea! We will miss them and look forward to seeing them in the future! 🎓
