About us
High reliability, low prices and high customer satisfaction are cornerstones of our customer commitment, but it doesn't end there. We're equally dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve. Our vision to be "A Citizen Wherever We Serve" still holds true, more than 100 years after it was coined by our first company president, Preston Arkwright Sr. We are the largest subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. Value, Reliability, Customer Service and Stewardship are the cornerstones of our company’s promise to 2.5 million customers in all but four of Georgia’s 159 counties. Committed to delivering clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy at rates below the national average, we maintain a diverse, innovative generation mix that includes nuclear, 21st century coal and natural gas, as well as renewables such as solar, hydroelectric and wind. What is the connection between Juneteenth and literacy? Angelo Omari, one of our creative leaders, answers this question while highlighting a way we can learn more about African American history and culture. He said, “I often say Black History IS American History, or more simply put—history. Juneteenth is an excellent opportunity to engage in intentional education about our past.” One way Angelo engages with history is through reading and visiting museums and libraries, such as the Auburn Avenue Research Library. He states, “Public libraries are about free and open access to all. I encourage everyone to support your local public libraries not just on historical dates like Juneteenth, but year-round.” We want to encourage everyone to visit the Auburn Avenue Research Library to learn more about African American history and culture. Thank you to their team for all the amazing work they do for Georgians! #Juneteenth

This week, we hosted community leaders, elected officials, and first responders from across Georgia to collaborate on and discuss how we respond to severe weather. Our CEO Kim Greene welcomed the group before a panel discussion with Georgia Power’s Fredie Carmichael, Tami Barron and Fran Forehand, and our partners Chris Stallings (Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security) and David Nadler (National Weather Service) to cover hurricane preparedness, storm response, and severe weather management. A highlight of our summit was a mock staging site demonstration. When a storm hits, our dedicated crews are ready to work tirelessly to restore power. We set up storm staging sites to provide our team with comfortable accommodations, allowing them to rest between shifts and keep their focus on safely serving our communities. Stay tuned for behind-the-scenes videos on our Instagram throughout the summer. A big thank you to our partners at Storm Services LLC, NWS, GEMA, everyone who attended our Hurricane Summit, and event lead Marie Bertot, CEM from our Corporate Affairs team! As we anticipate an active 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, rest assured that Georgia Power is prepared. #HurricanePreparedness #StormReady #GeorgiaPower #GAWX #Collaboration

Our commitment to hurricane preparedness is a year-round effort. Recently Jason Stott, our Storm Center Manager, represented us at the Congressional Hurricane Preparedness event in Washington, D.C., alongside other industry leaders. We asked Jason about this year’s hurricane season and the importance of collaboration. He shared, "Georgia Power works tirelessly throughout the year to ensure we're ready to respond to storms affecting our customers. This year, we've teamed up with state and local agencies to solidify our plans and ensure seamless collaboration during any major weather events. Participating in this event with our utility peers was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our mutual assistance partnerships.” We are excited to continue our collaboration with electric companies nationwide, federal policymakers, and state governments to further enhance our storm response capabilities. #HurricanePreparedness #StormResponse #UtilityCollaboration #GeorgiaPower

What do we mean when we say “clean energy for a growing Georgia”? With the completion of Plant Vogtle Units 3 & 4, Georgia is now home to the largest generator of clean energy in the nation. This state is open for business and our economy continues to grow and thrive! We’re ready to meet the energy needs of a growing Georgia. Thank you to all of the elected officials, business & community leaders and employees who came out this week to celebrate this new generation source, expected to operate for at least 60 – 80 years! #unitedstates #Vogtle #PlantVogtle #EcconomicDevelopment #Georgia #GeorgiaPower #energy #goodenergy

This Memorial Day, we want to take a moment to honor our fallen heroes, their families, and the veterans with us today. Our Military Veterans Employee Resource Group spent the weekend at Canton National cemetery distributing flags in honor of those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for your service to this great nation.
