Manufacture membrane specialty chemicals sold through global distribution network. World-class laboratory services.

About us

Genesys and PWT came together to form the H2O Innovation Specialty Chemicals Group following the acquisition of Genesys in 2019. The combined teams represent the world's largest manufacturer of specialty membrane chemicals sold through a global distribution network. Our chemistry now includes a strong lineup of traditional phosphonate-based antiscalant as well as the novel dendrimer-based non-P antiscalant. Cleaning chemistry from the two companies has been developed to address a wide range of foulants. Some notable products include Genesol 80, a unique non-oxidizing cleaner targeting organics, and OptiClean N, the industries' first enzyme-based cleaner. Our laboratories in Madrid, Spain, and Vista, California have performed thousands of autopsies, and stand ready to help diagnose the most difficult membrane issues. In addition, we can run cleaning studies in the lab to test multiple cleaning protocols in a short period of time to support onsite troubleshooting. Our Business Development Managers are based strategically around the world to support our distribution network through a Key Account strategy that focuses on the customer. Knowledge gained from years of hands-on field experience proves invaluable to our customers when our team of experts are called for support at the customer site.

Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes are made of several layers, including the active layer of polyamide and supporting layers that provide mechanical strength. The delamination of RO membranes due to permeate back pressure is a specific failure where the polyamide layer separates or peels apart as a consequence of excessive pressure on the permeate side of the membrane.  Delamination significantly impacts the performance of RO systems, since it leads to a decrease in salt rejection and consequently to a reduction in the overall efficiency of the water treatment process. So, what causes this issue, and how can we prevent it from happening? This high back pressure can be produced by a valve or by the climbing height of the production pipe. It can also be a result of a bad design of the permeate pipe, of a failure of valves in the permeate pipe, or of an incorrect membrane washing procedure. Thankfully, we at Genesys - PWTare well versed in solutions to take care of this exact problem. If you’re experiencing delamination issues, feel free to contact us so we can recommend the best course of action to help you optimize the performance of your system! 💬  [email protected] #WaterTreatment #Membranes #ReverseOsmosis

Ever wonder what your membrane looks like close up? Recently, we used Scanning Electron Microscopy to produce this image. It shows the intricate distribution of foulant on a BWRO membane.   As shown, there is a concentration of calcium carbonate and silica in areas of the membrane in contact with the spacer material. Understanding the distribution of foulants is crucial for selecting the right cleaners and improving plant performance. In this case, we needed a cleaner which could remove foulant from under the spacer. This is why we perform such analyses: to determine the product that should be used and the cleaning routine should be implemented.   We recommend cleaning this type of foulant with a strong alkaline cleaner such as Genesol 704 and reduce the chance of future CaCO3 and silica scaling by dosing a carbonate/silica-specific antiscalant such as Genesys SI. Download more information about these solutions. The link is in the comments. #WaterTreatment #Desalination #Filtration

For our next foulant of the month, we’re looking at 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲. Calcium fluoride is a highly insoluble salt, meaning that it tends to precipitate even when at low concentrations. 📌 In most RO plants, calcium fluoride isn’t a problem for two reasons: 1. Even a small dose of antiscalant is usually sufficient to control calcium fluoride scaling. 2. Fluoride is present in such low concentrations (<1 ppm) that the mass of salt which can precipitate is very small. Nevertheless, some plants suffer from severe calcium fluoride scaling, and this can cause major issues, since it is one of the most difficult scales to remove. 💬 If you suspect calcium fluoride scale in your plant, get in touch with Genesys - PWT at [email protected]! We can help confirm its presence and recommend a suitable cleaning regimen.

🚰💧 Membrane cleaning is an inevitable task of water treatment plant operations. But when it comes to choosing the right cleaning chemicals, should operators opt for generic or specialty cleaners? While cost is usually a deciding factor, there are benefits and drawbacks to each type of cleaner.  🔬🧪 Specialty cleaners are typically provided by specialty chemical companies who specialize in membrane treatment. They are designed to be membrane-compatible and contain multiple components, such as including dispersants, which help lift and remove matter from the membrane surface. Specialty cleaners are also buffered to achieve and maintain a target pH to avoid possible membrane damage.  Generic cleaners are commercially available, but may not be specifically designed for membrane cleaning. Plant operators must make an educated guess based on historical cleaning data and raw water data to determine what type of cleaner to use. Exposing the membrane system to a cleaning solution with a pH too high or too low may cause irreversible membrane damage.  👀 The next time your system is ready for a cleaning, talk to your preferred specialty chemical supplier. You may be surprised at how reasonable the cost is. When you consider the greater effectiveness and safety of both pH buffering and handling, specialty cleaners may serve a greater value! Share your experience with membrane cleaning in the comments below. Have you tried both generic and specialty cleaners? Which one do you prefer and why?  👉 If you need any assistance, you can always contact us: [email protected]#WaterTreatment #Filtration #Desalination #reverseosmosis
