Etizolam is an illicit designer benzodiazepine which produces effects similar to prescription benzodiazepines such as alprazolam (Xanax). Counterfeit Xanax tablets may contain variable amounts of etizolam. Tablets with high amounts of etizolam can cause toxicity if ingested, especially when combined with other substances. When toxic symptoms occur in patients, they may include severe sedation, unconsciousness, and depression of the medullary respiratory center. In this regard, there is the potential for death. Additionally, the rise in fake Xanax tablets containing etizolam and other counterfeit medications has been exacerbated by the difference in regulations regarding these substances in different countries as well as the illegal drug trade. Healthcare providers may also play a role through the over- or underprescribing of certain medications. Thus, in order to combat the rise in counterfeit medications such as fake Xanax, international cooperation, regulation, and enforcement of laws pertaining to the manufacture, prescription, and distribution of these substances are needed. What is kitty flipping? "Kitty flipping" is the practice of combining MDMA (ecstasy) and ketamine. This term is similar to "candy flipping" in which MDMA is combined with LSD. Historically, kitty flipping appears to refer more to using MDMA and ketamine within the same short time period, but a recent report mentioned a drug seizure showing that MDMA and ketamine were pre-mixed. Increased mentions online? The number of mentions of "kitty flipping" on Reddit increased between mid-2022 and early 2023 and has been fairly consistent since then. This may indicate increased interest in the practice. It may also be caused by recent media mentions. The National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS) relaunched Reddit online mention alerts from their Web Monitoring Team. How is it being discussed? Discussion orients around the perception of kitty flipping as mixing the dissociative effects of ketamine with entactogenic effects of MDMA. People who use it also sometimes report use of this combination as a way to reduce the negative "comedown" effects of MDMA. Many people online caution against taking MDMA and ketamine simultaneously or pre-combined, and instead recommend specific timing combinations. To access this original NDEWS weekly briefing, see https://lnkd.in/eubJE9k5 To learn more about how Genesis Reference Laboratories can provide urine and oral fluid toxicology testing to aid in medication monitoring and the detection of substance use, including MDMA, ketamine and many other recreational substances, please call: (844) 510-0194. #kittyflipping #mdma #ketamine #warondrugs #reddit #genesisreferencelabs #orlandomedical #diagnostictesting #medlab

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a bacterium that grows in the mucus layer that coats the inside of the stomach. Although many bacteria cannot survive the stomach’s acid environment, H. pylori is able to neutralize the acidity of its local environment in the stomach, though not the stomach as a whole. H. pylori mainly spreads from person to person through oral contact with stool (fecal–oral), saliva (oral–oral), or vomit (gastric–oral). In most populations, the bacterium is first acquired during childhood and infection is more likely in people living in poverty, in crowded conditions, and in areas with poor sanitation. Can H. pylori cause health issues? Yes. Although H. pylori infection does not itself cause illness, chronic infection causes long-lasting inflammation in the stomach (called non-atrophic gastritis) in most people. About 10% of people infected with H. Pylori develop open sores (ulcers) which are the most common presenting symptom of infection. This inflammation can lead to several additional conditions, including atrophic gastritis (thinning of the stomach lining caused by long-term inflammation) and certain types of stomach (gastric) cancer, particularly gastric adenocarcinoma and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, which is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. To learn more about H. pylori, see link; https://lnkd.in/ejDPpegC To access this National Institutes of Health (NIH) webpage, see link: https://lnkd.in/eXYu_Ntu To learn more about Genesis Reference Labs’ molecular testing offerings which include using PCR technology on fecal swabs to identify the presence of H. pylori and other common gastrointestinal pathogens, please call: (844) 510-0194. #hpylori #bacteria #CDC #gutbacteria #NIH #genesisreferencelabs #diagnostictesting #orlandomedical #medlab

Genesis Reference Laboratories reposted this
Today marks 3 years since I started my journey with Genesis Reference Laboratories. Working with GRL has far past any and all expectations. When I first joined the company, I started in at the ground level as a collector and quickly found additional opportunity to grow within the company. I have grown not only professionally but personally, making so many friends along the way! When I was perusing a TUGD I wanted to effect change in my community and impact the lives of the people I got to interact with for the better. Never would I have guessed I’d get to partner with my community on this level. Thank you to all the people who make up GRL! I look forward to the years to come. Genesis Reference Laboratories

Congratulations to our LCS of the Month for June, Turner S! "My name is Turner and I have been an LCS in Arizona (one of the rare ones born and raised!) with Genesis Reference Laboratories for almost a year now. Working with Genesis has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in my career. Every day I challenge myself to do three positive things, whether it’s helping a stranger or bettering myself. If I’m not working you’ll definitely find me at the gym! Fun fact - I am a state, national and world champion powerlifter! Working in the sobriety/rehab field has been so rewarding and I am beyond excited to continue working with Genesis!" #lcs #employeespotlight #congratulations #teamwork #workculture #genesisreferencelabs #orlandomedical #medlab
