Community trust must be earned through sustained presence and engagement beyond traditional settings. That is why earlier this month we extended our reach beyond the ASCO Annual Meeting conference halls and into the local Chicago community itself – catalyzing discussions and actions to address healthcare inequities where they will have the greatest impact. Over the course of the weekend, we connected with and inspired students at Chicago Collegiate Charter School to pursue careers in STEM, sponsored a health equity symposium in partnership with the American Cancer Society and The University of Illinois Cancer Center, convened patient advocates and LGBTQ community leaders and sparked conversations challenging ASCO attendees to ask bigger questions about health outcome disparities across zip codes. Earlier this month, we were honored to welcome Congresswoman Nanette Barragán and her staff to our South San Francisco headquarters! During her visit, Congresswoman Barragán toured our Clinical Supply Center and engaged in insightful discussions with our leadership teams from research & early development, manufacturing, and our Chief Diversity Office. We had the opportunity to showcase our transformative research innovations and our commitment to advancing clinical trial diversity, health equity, and access to treatments. Congresswoman Barragán’s enthusiasm and curiosity for our initiatives were truly inspiring. We are grateful for her dedication to fostering an environment that promotes healthcare innovation and her unwavering commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive future. Thank you, Congresswoman Barragán, for your time and invaluable insights. Together, we can make a difference! #Innovation #Diversity #HealthEquity #Research

Juneteenth is a time to celebrate Black history, resilience and hope, while also acknowledging that the fight for equity continues, including in healthcare. Today, we’re proud to shine a light on a piece of Genentech history. Thirty years ago, our first-ever employee resource group, African Ancestry in Biotechnology (AAIB), was founded to provide career support and enhanced visibility for Black professionals at our company. We’re proud of AAIB’s long standing legacy and impact on making Genentech – and the biotech industry – more equitable and inclusive. Hear from AAIB co-founder Gail Tennyson Hicks about AAIB’s evolution and how she is celebrating Juneteenth: http://spr.ly/604757FBZ #Juneteenth

Public policy has the power to help close inequitable gaps in healthcare access and outcomes in our increasingly diverse world. That is one of the many reasons why representation matters at every level of government. We are proud to support the LGBTQ Victory Institute’s efforts to invest in the next generation of public leaders. Since 2021, the number of LGBTQ candidates on the ballot has increased by nearly 32%, and employees across our company are working to continue driving this progress. Below, hear more from Brian Maloney and Tammy Bima, Genentech employees and Victory Institute volunteers, about the importance of this work, and learn more about the organization’s impact here: https://lnkd.in/ehHGZ3xf
