Entering our final week of #NationalSafetyMonth, it is important to remember the dangerous impact that slips, trips and falls can have on every employee within a working environment. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), “In 2022, 865 workers died in falls, and hundreds of thousands were injured badly enough to require days off of work.” These accidents are 100% preventable. When working with construction equipment, be sure to keep in mind the following tips: 1. Make sure you have level ground to set up the equipment. 2. Discuss the task with coworkers and determine what safety equipment is needed for the project. 3. Make sure you are professionally trained in how to use the equipment before beginning the project. 4. Scan the work area for potential hazards before starting the job. Always stay cautious and be mindful of your surroundings and the objects around you that could be dangerous if not handled properly. Remember, your safety is always the top priority! #SlipsTripsFalls #SafetyTips #GemmaPowerSystems #EPC #ElectricalContractors #PowerIndustry

June Project Throwback This month, 13 years ago, Gemma achieved substantial completion on the Middletown Repowering Project! Located just around the corner from us in Middletown, CT, this project consisted of the addition of four GE LM6000-PC Sprint dual fuel gas turbines, exhaust systems with SCR and CO catalysts, and the associated balance of plant equipment. The gas turbines operate in simple cycle mode to provide short-term peaking power to the grid during periods of high demand. The aggregate generating capacity of the four units is a nominal 200 MW net. The plant also features an aqueous ammonia storage tank and 1,000,000-gallon fuel oil storage tank, with a common fuel oil and ammonia truck unloading facility. Gemma was responsible for the complete construction, start-up and commissioning of the new power plant, up to the low voltage side of the generator step-up (GSU) transformers. Notice to proceed was granted in May 2010 with substantial completion achieved on June 10, 2011. #tb #gemma #middletown #power #simplecycle

This week during #NationalSafetyMonth, we observe risk reduction. When welding and working with flammable materials, it is important to understand the risks of creating an explosive atmosphere. Be sure to follow all required protocols by maintaining a hot work permit, conducting atmospheric testing and assigning a fire watch to mitigate the potential for explosions and fires. It is also important to note that rebars on construction sites can be extremely hazardous if someone were to trip and fall on one. According to Neumann Steel, 61% of yearly construction accidents are due to people being impaled by rebar. ALWAYS be sure to utilize a rebar cap to ensure the safety of your workers and staff. #RiskReduction #SafetyFacts #SafetyFirst #GemmaPowerSystems

A little rain wasn’t enough to stop Gemma from gathering last Friday night to catch some Hartford Yard Goats Baseball! Although the Akron RubberDucks waddled away with a narrow 2-1 victory, we still had plenty of good food, good laughs, and good baseball action. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this a memorable night for all! #gemma #employeesocial #hartford #yardgoats #nogoatsnoglory
