Nice to see #TeamGEI out on the water and getting work done to improve lake health in Northeast Wisconsin. Keep up the great work this summer! Korin Doering Stephanie Cole Bryce Kohler Katherine Reed, Ph.D.
#TeamGEI is on the water surveying aquatic plant communities in Little Lake Butte des Morts with help from Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance. It's a beautiful day for collaborative field work in Northeast Wisconsin! We will use the results of this survey, combined with stakeholder input, to gain a better understanding of the aquatic plant community, establish a baseline, identify potential areas of critical habitat, and inform recommendations to manage nuisance aquatic plants that impede recreation and navigation. Aquatic plants are important for lake health but can grow to nuisance levels in lakes with excessive amounts of phosphorus and sediment pollution. In addition to prescribing potential management actions such as harvesting and herbicide treatments, we will also help the community identify ways to reduce pollution at the source. A huge shout out to our client, project partners, and funders! City of Neenah, CITY OF MENASHA, Village of Fox Crossing, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance, Fund for Lake Michigan, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Future Neenah, Inc., Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) GEI Consultants, Inc. #aquaticplants #lakes #littlelakebuttedesmorts #boating #waterquality #recreation #lakemanagement

Kudos to Dan DeVaun and the members of #TeamGEI and others who helped make this small stream #restoration project a success. Also nice to see the #GEILobster getting out in the field.
#TeamGEI really enjoyed working with Kal Excavating and the Village Of Suttons Bay on this small stream restoration project. this restoration was prompted by the failure of a water wheel structure and erosion of the stream channel. GEI had the pleasure of designing and implementing this restoration. #GEILobster even joined in on the fun!

#Congratulations are in order for Joseph Roman as he begins his term as the new president of the Massachusetts LSP Association. He’ll be leading the collective voices of Massachusetts’s approximately 400 LSPs in sharing information, engaging stakeholders, and providing input to regulators on site remediation regulations and guidance. Joe, here's to a sure-to-be successful term as MA LSPA president.

Well done to #TeamGEI's Midwest #Ecology Team, helping lead a meaningful discussion with communities invested in the cleanup of this lake and the area's #naturalresources. Korin Doering Katie Unke Ehrenberg Stephanie Cole
#TeamGEI presented on the benefits of lake management planning and public involvement to Little Lake Butte des Morts shoreline property owners and lake users on behalf of the City of Neenah, CITY OF MENASHA, and Village of Fox Crossing. After the presentation, we facilitated discussions and gathered meaningful input from over 140 meeting attendees. The goal of the meeting was to kick-off Phase 1 of a lake management planning initiative. Phase 1 is focused on building partnerships, engaging stakeholders, and gaining a better understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of an urban lake plagued by harmful algal blooms, nuisance aquatic plant growth, and invasive species. As part of the planning process, we are working to develop science-based and community informed recommendations for addressing those challenges. Working together, we're confident we can identify both short-term and long-term solutions to restore the lake to its full potential. Check out this news story that highlights the meeting: https://lnkd.in/gqsgcDuy In addition to the municipalities, this project has several partners and funders: Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, Fund for Lake Michigan, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Future Neenah, Inc., and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). #waterquality, #lakemanagement, #recreation, #aquaticplants, #invasivespecies, #Wisconsin

Welcome to #TeamGEI Kaitlyn Roach. Kaitlyn is an engineering student at Cornell University, spending her summer assisting our #climateadaptation, #ecosystemrestoration, and #damsafety teams on projects. Her assistance will help move projects forward to: • improve hydropower generation • protect drinking water supplies from rising salinity • improve the seismic integrity of multiple large dams, and • identify opportunities to relocate critical transportation infrastructure out of a coastal wetland subject to high tide flooding and sea level rise. Here she’s putting her engineering talents to work, applying CAD skills to spillway design and summarizing complex thermodynamic models for an alternative assessment to cool a scenic California river in the face of climate change. The MGP Conference 2024 is a can't miss event this fall for those working in or around former manufactured gas plants. This every other year conference takes place in Atlanta this year on October 17 and 18. #MGP #Remediation
T-minus 120 days until MGP Conference 2024! You might know that a major problem associated with MGP sites is the presence of coal tar and other residuals in abandoned underground pipes and structures. But did you know that coal tar, a by-product of metallurgical coke and coal gas production, is a common ingredient in dandruff shampoo and helps to treat psoriasis? https://mgpconference.com/
