Using FSC-certified lumber in our products is one way we choose to be sustainable at Fundermax. An FSC certification on a lumber or wood product means that it meets high standards for environmentally, socially, and economically responsible lumber processing. It's not mandatory in the lumber production industry so choosing manufacturers that use FSC-certified materials means you’re going above and beyond to protect the planet. Carbon-neutral buildings offer many benefits environmentally and financially which include operational savings, commanding higher rent, and reducing the usage of non-renewable resources. However, the costs associated with carbon-neutral buildings, specifically the initial investment of sustainable technologies and materials, can cause some building owners to be hesitant. Read this article to learn why the decarbonization of buildings is so important: https://hubs.la/Q02HGhbk0? Choosing sustainable building materials may have a higher upfront cost but the relatively low maintenance and replacement costs creates long term economic advantages. Phenolic panels are a durable, sustainable material that, with proper installation and upkeep, can last for decades. Learn why the total cost of owning phenolic panels is worth the initial investment in our blog: https://hubs.la/Q02HGfXR0 #sustainability #carbonreduction #environmentalimpact #commercialconstruction #commercialarchitecture #sustainabledesign #sustainablematerials #greenarchitecture #sustainablearchitecture https://hubs.la/Q02HGhbk0?

722 Ash Street Residence in Lawrence, Kansas was built by students at the University of Kansas School of Architecture. This project was built to be LEED Platinum Certified so the design team looked for sustainable building materials to help achieve this. The rainscreen facade is made of Fundermax woodgrain exterior phenolic panels which uses FSC certified, or sustainably managed, wood and consists of 65% natural fibers. Additionally, the facade helps the house and corresponding dwelling reduce its energy consumption- saving both money and environmental resources. For lab designers and planners, it is crucial to create labs that are functional, sustainable, and safe for all users. Knowing how lab safety and sustainability is measured will help optimize processes and procedures that are in place. Fortunately, systems designed to enhance lab safety and operational efficiency are being researched. Read this article for more information: https://hubs.la/Q02HGf3G0 Historically, sustainable lab designs have focused on the energy usage of a lab once it's occupied. With a push to reduce our carbon footprint, however, green laboratory practices are being looked at on a wider scale. High-tech lab buildings use five to ten times more energy than offices due to their energy-intensive processes and equipment, resulting in higher greenhouse gas emissions. To address this, the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) launched the Labs2Zero program, providing free tools to reduce labs' energy and carbon footprints.
