Playgrounds are essential for childhood development, offering a place for physical activity, social interaction, and stress relief. Ensuring kids have regular playground time can lead to better academic performance and happier students. See how play impacts students by watching this video. Thank you, community, for your unwavering support! Your votes have enabled us to meet many needs, even with Measure M, which passed in 2020 that allocated $325 million for facility investments, our district still faces over $2 billion in unmet facility needs. #RecessMatters #HealthyKids #ActiveLearning #StudentWellbeing #FUSDFamily #AchievingOurGreatestPotential

Studies show that children who engage in regular physical activity are more focused and better learners. Encouraging our kids to use the playground can lead to happier, healthier, and more successful students. Watch this video to see how we made play a priority! Thank you to our community for your continued support! Your votes have helped us address many needs, but we still have over $2.5 billion in facilities improvements ahead to ensure every campus has what it needs to thrive. #ActiveLearning #StudentWellbeing #HealthyKids #RecessMatters #FUSDFamily #AchievingOurGreatestPotential

This is our summer camp Fuel Up and Be Fit. We partnered with Fresno unified to provide a safe place for students to come during the summer. Our camp focuses on nutrition education, fitness and cooking. Students love cooking. We use air fryers to show students simple, delicious and nutritious ways to make meals for themselves. Cooking skills is something that kids do not learn but are so essential as they get older. We offer balanced breakfast, lunch and snacks. I absolutely hope that other school districts learn from Fresno Unified School District and start to offer these type of camps to their students.

EDUCATION BEAT PODCAST: Misty Her first entered Fresno Unified School District as a first grader, learning English as a second language. Her family was among hundreds of thousands of Hmong refugees who came to the U.S. after the Vietnam War. She’s dedicated her career to giving back to the district where she grew up, starting as a bilingual instructional aide, then a teacher, principal, and deputy superintendent. In May, the school board appointed her as the new interim superintendent of Fresno Unified. She is the first woman to lead the district since its inception in 1873, and the first Hmong person, in a district where 10% of English learners speak Hmong at home. What challenges does Her face in leading the third-largest school district in California? Why does her appointment as interim superintendent matter?

We’re grateful for Interim Superintendent Her’s leadership! #FUSDFamily #ImprovingStudentOutcomes #AchievingOperationalExcellence
When the Fresno Unified School District board named Misty Her as the interim superintendent, she became the first woman to lead the district since its 1873 inception. “I’ve walked this hallway a thousand times,” she said about seeing her picture on the wall of the district office. “It took 151 years in this district, as diverse as this district (is), before a woman’s face got on that wall.” Her face on that wall – and as the face of the district – embodies the fact that she is the first woman at the helm of the district as well as its first Hmong leader.
