Franciscan Ministries, sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, is a nonprofit Catholic organization. For more than a century, we have cared for generations of families. We own and operate premier senior living communities that provide a spectrum of housing and care options including independent living, assisted living, memory support services, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and community-based home care. Our charitable programs include a domestic violence prevention center and shelter, and we provide scholarships and educational support for students attending an all-girls Catholic high school in the Chicago area.

"Many senior living communities across the U.S. are holding off from discounting, reflecting discipline for keeping senior living rates where they are." In a recent survey, 63% of senior living communities didn’t offer specials in Q1 2024, representing a 7% increase from Q1 2023. However, the most common discount that senior living operators offered in Q1 2024 was reduced/discounted rent (11% offered), while 9% waived or reduced community fees as a discount. As we promised! Here's a recipe for your 4th of July celebration, fresh from our kitchen! Pico de Gallo! Use it as a fresh salsa with tortilla chips, serve it alongside guacamole or use it as a topping! All of your guests are going to love this. You'll need just 8 ingredients for this fresh and inviting taste - Roma tomatoes, onion (red, white or scallions), Jalapeños, Garlic, Cilantro, Lime, Salt and Cumin. Mix and match the ratios of ingredients to suite your taste. We prefer the ratios below: 3 cups of diced Roma tomatoes (or you can use plum tomatoes) 2/3 cup diced white, red or scallions (use white and green portions) 2/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro, loosely packed 1 to 2 jalapeño pepper(s), stemmed, cored and finely diced (you can use 1 poblano as a substitute for less heat) 1 lime, zested and juiced 1 teaspoon of course kosher salt 1 small clove of garlic (secret ingredient) 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (another secret ingredient) Combine all of these ingredients in a large mixing bowl and evenly toss. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to three hours before serving. Reminder: Leftovers should be refrigerated and kept for only 2 days. If you are allergic to any of the above ingredients, please refrain from consuming.
