Loved the opportunity to share a 5 minute talk at #DisruptHRorl last week. To keep it interesting, the talk called us to be bilateral thinkers. 🎨✖️🎲 As a left-handed, probably right-brain-dominant founder, I’m a hobby artist that enjoys playing with numbers and figures if they form statistics and probability. I took the audience through a digital museum of HR Analogies—a tour through classic masterpieces, while engaging the art of agile hiring. The purpose was to use art to ask ourselves when hiring modalities really fit business goals that required the adaptability, productivity, efficiency, flexibility, and continuous improvement’s that agile hiring strategies call for. Think of it — if a business is a blank canvas full of potential to become a masterpiece, how careful must creators be with each brushstroke they make through the talent they hire. For example, a decision at the wrong time to fit full-time hours into an agile hiring strategy could waste up to 60% of an average full time budget, when factoring leadership time, productivity ratios on deep work, and other pivots in business operations. I called on the art viewers — to contemplate the nuances and hidden details of their masterpieces when comparing the real cost of modalities like full-time, freelance, and fractional skill. At the end of the tour, I revealed the art of cost. But, more to come on this topic—so I won’t reveal the centerpieces in this post. I’ll host a special reveal in a digital exhibition here in coming weeks. Thank you for the opportunity DisruptHR Orlando, Sommer, Leslie, among my favorite fractional CFOs Phil, fellow art/science speaker Kamaria, HR pro and author Dawn, seeing fractional recruiting friend Christine, inspirational trainer Kim, and DEI leader Edwin, and all the speakers for your warm, genuine, and insightful talks — these speakers inspire and really care about inspiring a healthy workforce. #startup #business #tech #founder #hr

As a bootstrapped founder, last week I visited Austin a different way—embracing a budget-friendly approach more my style to make it possible to travel more often. Opting for just a hiking backpack on the cheapest flight, the local bus, and a hostel, I was able to immerse myself in the community differently this time. During my walks downtown, I contributed to a nonprofit tackling poverty, shared a meal with a homeless person, and it set a tone. I was able to introspectively reflect on my mission and resources amidst diverse founder conversations I had or overheard over a few days. There were different perspectives—some chasing unicorns at any cost including shortchanging their employees, others focused on cost-efficient talent acquisition, others so new to the journey and brimming with optimism for fundraising, and a few hesitant to invest in their own visions or talent from their own pockets. During these conversations, I did also find founders deeply dedicated to driving impactful change in the world through the ideas that had come to them. They seemed motivated by a kind of authenticity rooted in introspection, community service, and a genuine commitment to their mission. They seemed to understand that meaningful innovation and profound impact won’t stem from flashy showcases but from unwavering dedication to a purpose and the communities they aim to empower. I am still a deeply work-in-progress founder that faces my own fears daily too, but do believe that the author of tomorrow won’t change the truth that by striving to lead and give selflessly, these kinds of founders will receive far beyond material wealth, paving the way for sustainable success driven by passion and purpose. #founders #startups #techstartup #founder #startup

A couple weeks ago, I drove a large SUV up to 12,000 feet along a narrow mountain road full of switchbacks and cliffs. I had 6 passengers trusting me with their lives, for an adventure we were excited about in Rocky Mountain National Park. When we reached the top of the two hour climb, I thanked them for trust in me. And they thanked me for driving. I didn’t promise we’d get there safely. It was a primitive road few took, and although I brought them on the adventure, their simple ‘thank you’ weighed really heavily on me. I recalled a few conversations while driving—self talk to strengthen myself to fulfill the trust they had put in my hands on that wheel. “Whether we sell, or IPO, I want to do this again with you. I see you as a partner.” I had a founder say this to me once. When it’s too early in the journey, When it’s so treacherous, When you start facing your fears, When the switchbacks and pivots are going to be inevitable. Founders of startups: Do not make promises too early. When you’ve got to keep your eye on the road, under the weight of the lives you’ve brought on the journey with you. I rode up a treacherous mountain road with this founder for nearly two years. Under the weight of millions of dollars in company revenue and customer ROI. When he slowly distanced himself from his words, I still defended his character. I even started praying for him. Then, one day on the way to the top, he stopped the car, and I was asked to step out. I was forced to face the truth. The road did get tough, The voices around him got louder, The shareholders increased, The pressure was high, I had trusted my life in his hands, and I was laid off, By someone else on his behalf. Not for lack of performance, But for hollow words, For something he couldn’t do. For something that wasn’t on paper, But a matter of character. It was an unfulfilled promise, And I forgave him. Employees at startups: Founders mean well, Most are passionate, well meaning, and hopeful. But we are human too, navigating the uphill battle for various stakeholders who are passengers, while we steer through proverbial challenges. Experiences like this inspired me to start Fractio to alleviate the burden on small businesses and early-stage founding teams along the sometimes treacherous path of entrepreneurship. #techstartups #startup #founders

What brought me to these doors today wasn’t just determination and caffeine. Hurricane Beryl and a 2am drive ahead of the rain from Houston were obstacles, overcome thanks to a large coffee from Buc-ee's, adrenaline, and classic rock on the car radio. A few months ago, a chance encounter here sparked an opportunity that lit this winding path of growth and vulnerability as a founder. Wherever that path goes from here isn’t for me to know—my job is to just keep going as this path continues to reveal itself. This place though holds fond memories of six years of living in Austin—plus, nine years ago this month I met my first mentor on this very floor at Capital Factory. The founder's journey is far from linear; it's a delicate balance of optimism and realism, open doors and setbacks, honesty and self-deception, ego and humility, dreams realized and fears confronted. Founding teams, I see you. I am and have been you. Fractio is working hard to ease the founder’s journey, and light a less treacherous path for others. #techstartups #founders #startups

Little did I know that a chance encounter after speaking on a panel about securing and fueling funding for women-led ventures in late March—I'd run into a friend, engineer, and founder of ARE JEI, encoded jewelry. I purchased a silver bracelet inscribed with the word “worthy” in binary code. With Fractio bootstrapped, I stepped onto that stage with vulnerability and authenticity. The bracelet reminds us that we are all worthy of our mission, regardless of external validation. This sentiment resonates deeply with our startup’s ethos, and Fractio’s journey exemplifies this truth. We are rewriting startup culture as a champion for others, all thanks to our community. As we navigate the landscape as a tech startup ourselves, it’s key to recognize the unsung heroes—the founders who step out with unwavering courage, even before securing external funding, and the community that invest emotionally and intellectually in them. These visionaries are the heart and soul of innovation, and their stories inspire us all. In this blog, we give a shoutout to our community organizations, the fractional talent on our platform who make their skills available to early-stage startups, our startup subscribers, and the institutional and angel investors who have given their time in market research to make our mission to champion this change possible. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/dQ4F7T7P #founders #startups #techstartups
