“Don’t ever accept a barrier. There’s some stories … that you wouldn’t believe about how hard it was to convince the military that the only answer to providing a strong national defense was to realize … that talent can be both male and female.” – Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Kathy La Sauce Kathy La Sauce holds the title as the first woman to pilot a C-141 Starlifter, the first woman aircraft commander at Norton Air Force Base, and was a part of the first class of women graduates from Williams Air Force Base. La Sauce first joined the U.S. Air Force in 1972 and began flight training at Williams Air Force Base on September 29, 1976 with a group of women, Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) class 77-08. The class became the Air Force’s first class of women graduates on Sept. 2, 1977. Here are a few ways you can support the next mission of our servicemembers as they navigate their transition out of the military. 1) Promote Job Opportunities: Spread the word about job openings within your network and encourage employers to prioritize hiring veterans. 2) Donate: Support our childcare assistance program that allows our veterans to attain employment at https://lnkd.in/gMZpU7-9 3) Share Programs and Benefits: Raise awareness about available resources and share new opportunities with the veterans you know. “Childcare is a huge expense for our family. I am going to school full time and my husband just started to work again after recovering from an injury. This assistance helps allow for some breathing room. I can focus on school without having to worry about how we will pay for childcare. I can also put aside money for other expenses and get our debt under control too.” - Brenda, Navy Veteran Read about Brenda’s story at https://lnkd.in/gkBcBgJ8 #womenveterans #honorherservice #empowerherfuture

“I've had the privilege of serving under several phenomenal leaders and I've learned more than I could ever recite, but there are four items that I have gathered over the last 19 years that I've referred back to with each new assignment. Don't be afraid to rock the boat, ask the hard questions, get to the root of the problem before you start trying to solve it, and as my former boss and mentor Vice Adm. (Ret.) Jim Malloy [would say] - ‘The risk is found in the seams, transitions, and first of's.’ These four pillars have served me well over the past few years, and going into a command as unique as this, it will serve my staff and I to heed these lessons.” - LTC Lyndsey Thompson Last month, LTC Lyndsey Thompson took command of the U.S. Army Accessions Mission Support Battalion (AMSB) of the U.S. Army Marketing and Engagement Brigade. Thompson joins the AMSB following service in a wide variety of capacities, including deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq.
