  • Join us in congratulating our team at 220 North Tryon at Foundation For The Carolinas – located within our headquarters at Belk Place, uptown Charlotte’s premier event venue – for being honored as “The Best Nonprofit Event Award at the Crown Jewel Awards” hosted by the Charlotte International Live Events Association chapter!

🎉 Celebrating Success: 220 North Tryon Team Wins Best Nonprofit Event at the Crown Jewel Awards! 🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that our 220 North Tryon Team has been honored with the Best Nonprofit Event award at the prestigious Crown Jewel Awards, hosted by the Charlotte ILEA (International Live Events Association) chapter. Our team was honored along with other hospitality professionals celebrated for their contributions to our community. Let’s dive into the highlights of this remarkable celebration: Our CEO’s retirement celebration took place on January 4, 2023, at the Knight Theatre, with nearly 600 attendees. What began as a going-away party evolved into a community celebration, focusing on three pillars of our CEO’s career: arts and culture, education (especially his dedication to Duke University), and philanthropy. Notable guests, including Mayor Vi Lyles and Broadway performer Charles Randolph Wright, honored him. The event featured captivating performances by Maria Howell, JazzArts Charlotte’s ensemble, and T. Oliver Reid. The challenge? Planning it secretly, making it personal, and keeping our CEO in the dark. Logistics included interviews, personalized choices, and entertainment options. The result? A heartfelt celebration followed by a cocktail reception. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this extraordinary event. Here’s to our CEO’s legacy and the impact he continues to make! 🌟👏 Foundation For The Carolinas #220NorthTryon hashtag #CrownJewelAwards hashtag #CommunityCelebration hashtag #RetirementParty

  • With the Olympics just around the corner, it's exciting to see so many local athletes and teams affiliated with our area heading to Paris. We are particularly excited about USA Field Hockey's women's national team, because our CEO Cathy Bessant is the chair of the USA Field Hockey board and has been instrumental behind the scenes. Cathy will be joining the team (cheering them on) when they compete for gold in a few weeks!

Heading into Fiscal Year 2025, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County both made historic investments in arts and culture. To celebrate, we're looking back on the #InfusionFund and some of its past recipients. The Infusion Fund was a three-year, $36 million public-private initiative to stabilize and support the arts and culture ecosystem, ending June 30, 2024. In that time, some organizations received unrestricted operating grants and some artists and arts groups were awarded #OpportunityFund grants. Meet the featured recipients... 1️⃣ The Light Factory Photo Arts Center is a photography center that serves and enriches the community with a gallery, darkroom, print lab, and lighting studio. It was a recipient of general operating support through the Infusion Fund - $35,000 in fiscal year 2021 and $50,000 in fiscal year 2023. 2️⃣ The Independent Picture House (IPH) is a nonprofit community cinema that screens diverse, foreign, arthouse, and independent films for audiences. The IPH received funding through an Opportunity Fund grant for the pilot of its Community Impact Film Series. 3️⃣ Three Bone Theatre, Inc, an adult professional theatre company that calls the Queen City home, has a mission of using great theatre as a catalyst for conversation and change in the community. The City of Charlotte, Foundation For The Carolinas, and private partners have helped with that mission by providing overarching annual operating support through the Infusion Fund - $12,500 in fiscal year 2021 and $30,000 in fiscal year 2023.
