We wish to thank STL CRET for their incredible generosity! A week ago, 4 young women made a gift to cancer research through the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Their nonprofit organization, STL CRET, makes homemade items (including crocheted keychains, burbs, and bibs) to donate to numerous organizations and hospitals. Through their efforts, they raised $500 and donated it to the Cancer Frontier Fund.

Donors help make foundational discovery possible, the bedrock of where the next therapies are discovered. Sheila Stewart, PhD, a Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis cellular biologist and physiologist at Siteman Cancer Center and her team have leveraged support from Foundation donors through the Cancer Frontier Fund to develop more effective breast cancer therapies by looking deeper into how age-related changes in non-tumor cells may promote breast cancer. This fall, The Robert Ebert and Greg Stubblefield Head and Neck Tumor Center will open inside Siteman Cancer Center’s new state-of-the-art cancer building. A network of generous donors, spearheaded by cancer survivor Joe Koenig, partnered with the Foundation to name this new center in honor of two courageous friends and patients. This past weekend, 75 trailblazing students graduated from the BESt Healthcare Institute, a program dedicated to educating, training, and preparing underrepresented minority high school students for a career in healthcare.
