In 2008, Shephard Fairey created one of the most recognizable images in the history of American politics: the Obama "HOPE" poster. Stark, simple, and powerful, it galvanized a nation to imagine a future beyond what they had been told was possible. In light of the US presidential election, Fairey has added to this artistic legacy with "FORWARD", a portrait of Kamala Harris, which is emblazoned with the same ethos and energy as the original "HOPE" design. Fairey's blending of art, design, and politics isn't just a reflection of his personal views, but a call for all artists to unleash their inner activist. Fairey's exhibition "Photo Synthesis" is now on view at Fotografiska Tallinn. Already a hit at our Stockholm museum, the show brings together earlier works as well as new pieces in a captivating visual experience unlike anything the artist has ever shown before. Now, more than ever, is the time for art to inspire social change. We hope to see you in Tallinn to experience it together. Image credit: Art by Shepard Fairey. Empowering future creatives at Fotografiska! Last week's Student Wednesday at Fotografiska Stockholm was a vibrant celebration of creativity, transforming our museum into a lively hub for up-and-coming talent. Throughout the fall, students from Beckmans Designhögskola, Berghs School of Communication, Hyper Island and Fotoskolan STHLM are invited to immerse themselves in our exhibitions, engage in co-working sessions. Every Wednesday from September to November, we host after-work events that foster an inspiring environment for students to experiment with visual storytelling and delve into the evolving language of photography. We’re excited to see how these connections will spark fresh ideas and collaborations! Image credits: Joel Larsson, Jennie Sjölund. #FotografiskaStockholm

In times of natural disaster, we tend to lean on documentation to help us make sense of what’s happening. The act of capturing and sharing images, videos, and reports offers not only a way to comprehend the scope of the event but also a sense of solidarity, knowing that our experience is seen and recognized across the world. In the face of recent devastation from Hurricanes Helene and Milton along the East and Southern coasts of the U.S., photographer and Tampa resident Mike Carlson quickly got to work documenting what his community is living through. Having had to prepare his own home for the storm, he approached the work with a sense of empathy for the collective anxiety surrounding the aftermath: that things may never be the same. As a freelancer for the Associated Press, Carlson’s photos have reached people worldwide. These visuals don’t just show the raw power of nature, but they also connect us, reminding us that even in moments of chaos, we’re all in this together. In the early 1990s, a feminist punk revolution challenged gender norms - the Riot Grrrl movement. This fall Fotografiska Shanghai, in collaboration with MO&Co., co-curated the Grrrl Era exhibition. The project presented striking black-and-white portraits by Robin Galiegue and Hekaituoyi, capturing the individuality of eleven global personalities, igniting conversations about identity, activism, and equality. Kicked off by a star-studded opening and two full-house panel discussions - exploring curatorial insights and the evolving discourse around female narratives - this collaboration is a platform for ongoing dialogue on gender and culture through the lens of art. #FotografiskaShanghai #Exhibition #Photography

We opened Fotografiska New York on Park Avenue South in 2019 - and it’s been nothing short of an incredible journey. We put on dozens of exhibitions from some of the most influential names in photography, as well as those up-and-coming. We held thousands of programs and celebrations, and welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors through our doors. Most importantly, over the past 5 years, we’ve witnessed a wonderful tight-knit Fotografiska community come together out of years that were often less-than communal. While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to this location, this is just a new chapter in our New York journey. Stay tuned for what we’ll be up to next! #FotografiskaNewYork

When hip-hop’s rich history resonates beyond the stage! Last Friday, we celebrated hip-hop’s transformative impact on global culture and the countless lives it continues to inspire with the opening night of "Hip-Hop: Conscious Unconscious" at Fotografiska Berlin. The event brought together freestyle rapping, dynamic performances, and eclectic DJ mixes, blending art, photography, and culture, with our local community uniting to celebrate hip-hop’s legacy, by sharing unforgettable moments on the dance floor. A special thank you to our collaborators, Urban Logic Berlin, and our partner Johnnie Walker (Diageo), for their support in bringing this cultural celebration to life. “Hip-Hop: Conscious, Unconscious", presented by Fotografiska and Mass Appeal is on view at Fotografiska Berlin until January 26, 2025. #FotografiskaBerlin #Exhibition #Party #Opening #Music #HipHop

Our exploration of image culture extends beyond photography - and how unscripted events, much like photographs, can unexpectedly catalyze a cultural movement. In partnership with CNN, we recently hosted an exclusive screening of the upcoming CNN Original Series, "TV on the Edge: Moments That Shaped Our Culture," diving into the most impactful TV moments in American culture. The New York event, which took place in early September, featured a panel of industry leaders, including Sara Sidner (CNN Anchor and Senior National Correspondent), Rachel Lindsay (Media Personality and Co-Host of the Higher Learning Podcast), Eric Johnson (CNN Studios Executive Producer), and Lisa France (CNN Entertainment Reporter). They led a rich discussion on the power of television as a mirror reflecting our society. "TV on the Edge: Moments That Shaped Our Culture" will premiere this Sunday on CNN at 9 p.m. ET.

Say “hei hei!” to Fotografiska Oslo! Our sixth Fotografiska location, and second in Scandinavia, is set to open its doors in autumn 2027. Opening in Deich the historic Deichmanske building in the Norwegian capital’s Government Quarter, the new Fotografiska will carry on the tradition of inhabiting spaces that are culturally significant to the history of a city – in this instance Norway’s main public library, opened in 1933. Ever since opening our very first location in Stockholm in 2010, we’ve been dedicated to presenting the best of both up-and-coming and established artists and photographers whilst serving as a platform for each city’s own unique local art scene—and with its vibrant creative community, Oslo and Deich is a perfect match. For a taste of what’s to come, keep a lookout on @fotografiska.oslo on Instagram. Renders by: Paulsen & Nilsen AS #Fotografiska #FotografiskaOslo #Oslo #Photography #Art #Culture #Museum

We’re excited to announce the latest exhibition from Emerging Berlin – a program dedicated to supporting new local talent. Lukas Städler’s "Hain" takes viewers on a journey through Berlin’s hidden corners of the city’s gay cruising scene, offering a fresh and intimate perspective on spaces often considered taboo. This exhibition is the second installment in the Emerging Berlin series, where we give early-career photographers a platform to showcase their work at Fotografiska, along with mentorship, press opportunities, and direct professional exchange with industry experts. Check out some highlights from the opening night and experience "Hain" in person at Fotografiska Berlin through October 10. Emerging Berlin photography printing partner: Whitewall. #FotografiskaBerlin #Photography
