Studies show that the best way to manage ADHD (still) involves prescribing medication. But the national ratio of children to child psychiatrists is 6,644:1. So 85% of these medications are prescribed by pediatricians. The same pediatricians who, more often than not, report discomfort with prescribing. We can keep complaining but we prefer to do something about it. So we partnered with Advocare, LLC to educate pediatricians and next week, August 1, at 12:15 pm ET will be our second education session about prescribing non-stimulants for ADHD. Dozends of pediatricians joined our first session and we loved taking on questions and sharing knowledge. Please register here: https://lnkd.in/ejKnnUch And please share this information with other providers. #mentalhealth #medicationmanagement #pediatrics
About us
The problem: - 1-in-5 children today struggle with mental health - 50% of them do not receive care. Those that do, face: - Average wait times of 3.5 months (in states with higher availability) - High out of pocket costs - Inconsistent quality (only 20% of behavioral health care is evidence-based) Our solution: A partnership model that brings pediatricians, parents, providers and payers together. The benefits: 1. For pediatricians: refer directly in less than 90 seconds for therapy and psychiatry appointments typically within 7 days. 2. For parents and caregivers: learn how to support your child’s healing with coaching 3. For providers and therapists: training in evidence-based care developed by the Child Mind Institute and removal of all admin tasks. 4. For payors: targeted-care based on clinically validated scales. Our mission, and the outcome of these partnerships: Open more paths to better care for more families. Our unshakable belief: We are stronger together. What we’re looking for: Partners.

What do you call a service that gets more expensive while at the same time getting worse? Behavioral healthcare in the US. Three key quotes from PwC report that came out last week: "Commercial health care spending is estimated to grow 8.0% and 7.5% between 2024 and 2025, its highest level in 13 years" "This near-record high is driven by continued inflationary pressures, prescription drug spending, and behavioral health utilization without new meaningful deflators." "[Healthplans and payviders...invest in relationships with providers to establish collaborative care models that integrate physical and mental health services, promoting holistic and cost-effective care." Fort Health's take: we cannot keep using the same care models and expecting different results. Innovations like Collaborative Care are the only way out of a worsening crisis. This is why we're investing so much in implementing this model. If you're a health plan or health system and are tired of paying more and getting less, contact us and let's talk about implementing Collaborative Care for your patients. 2-in-3 pediatricians report discomfort with prescribing medications for common mental health conditions. As part of our commitment to supporting pediatricians and in partnership with Advocare, LLC, last week we hosted a training session in medication management for pediatricians. Dozens of pediatricians joined the session where Dr. Sara Harmon shared best practices on the management of ADHD with stimulants. Pediatricians are some of the nicest, hardest working, most principled, most idealistic, most empathetic, yet worst compensated providers in healthcare. Thank you The New York Times for shining a spotlight on the difficulties that stand in the way of those who dedicated their lives to children. Source: https://lnkd.in/eXZ2Snhh #LovePediatricians

You have 24-48 hours before the family changes their mind, lose their courage, or move on with their lives (until the next time). You have 24-48 hours from the moment they walked into your office and asked for a behavioral health referral. Is your behavioral health care partner reaching them within that time? We used to be able to contact 93% of families referred to us within 2 business days. That wasn't good enough. So we partnered with Fertu to improve our referrals outreach program. The result? We now contact 100% of referrals within 1 business day and are reaching out up to 8 times. If we can't reach them, we call the referring practice to update them, making sure no family falls through the cracks. If you're a pediatrician, make sure your behavioral health parter is as responsive and committed. #pediatricians #mentalhealth #behavioralhealthcare

85% of psychotropic medications are prescribed by PCPs, yet up to 64% report discomfort with doing so, and training is often far too theoretical. To address this gap, Fort Health and Advocare, LLC Doctors are hosting a training series on pediatric psychotropic medication management. Led by Dr. Sara Harmon, the series aims to boost pediatricians’ confidence in managing common mental health concerns in primary care. In July, we'll be tackling the diagnosis of, and prescribing stimulants for, ADHD through two sessions: - July 11, 12:15 pm ET: open webinar where Dr. Harmon will present best practices using (de-identified) case discussions - July 18, 12:15 pm ET: invitation only case-consultation session where pediatricians can bring their own (de-identified) cases To register please visit: https://lnkd.in/e-bJMxCg For any questions or to learn more, please contact [email protected] or call 908 280 4363 The only way to solve this pediatric mental health crisis is by working together... #pediatrics #mentalhealth #psychiatry

The most productive five minutes you'll have today. Last week we hosted a webinar about parenting resilience through optimism. The feedback has been tremendous and quite a few people mentioned this specific segment where Dr. Sue Varma shared a practical toolkit for dealing with difficult situations. I cannot think of a better, more productive way to spend five minutes of your day and please share this with anyone you know facing challenges in their lives (basically everyone you know). The Surgeon General of the US is on the New York Times Daily pod today talking about his latest move: a request to put a warning label on social media. Treating it like the digital cigarette that it is. https://lnkd.in/eHT8HM_Z And while we wait for legislators to do that (or anything really), here are a few helpful resources we at Fort Health created to help communities protect children against the potential harms social media can create: https://lnkd.in/eDPamuPB https://lnkd.in/ddibXfib https://lnkd.in/egqJrxRm And yes, we've been coming back again and again to the topic of social media's impact on mental health. Why? Because the impact is at this point unassailable and because no matter how much information we put out there, parents and school staff still have more questions. So much important work to do. Grateful to have medical leaders like Dr. Murthy who shares the evidence and highlight a path forward. #socialmedia #mentalhealth
