FoodCorps partners with schools and communities to nourish kids’ health, education, and sense of belonging.

About us

FoodCorps partners with schools and communities to nourish kids’ health, education, and sense of belonging so that every child, in every school, experiences the joy and power of food. Our AmeriCorps members serve alongside educators and school nutrition leaders to provide kids with nourishing meals, food education, and culturally affirming experiences with food that celebrate and nurture the whole child. Building on this direct service, FoodCorps advocates for policy change, grows networks, and develops leaders in service of every kid’s health and wellbeing. Our goal is that by 2030, every child will have access to food education and nourishing food in school.

Last week, the House of Representatives failed to stop the massive proposed cuts to AmeriCorps funding in 2026. The impact of those cuts would be devastating across the communities we work with, resulting in a loss of valuable resources for children and families. That’s why we need to work together now to secure a better outcome when decisions are finalized later this year or early next. Today, we’d like you to join us as we team up with Voices for National Service for a Virtual Day of Action. Elected officials need to hear that their constituents #Stand4Service and urge them to reject these devastating cuts and invest in AmeriCorps. Take action by clicking here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ef4CyXXS to write an email to your representatives asking them to #Stand4Service. Your actions can make all the difference. We're proud to announce our expansion into Birmingham, Alabama, where we’ll partner with Jones Valley Teaching Farm (JVTF) to support food education in Birmingham City Schools! 🥕 “We’re inspired by JVTF’s legacy of sharing hands-on food education with young people, primarily Black youth, across the city. “A lot has happened in this election cycle. Let’s check the record: President #JoeBiden will not seek reelection. Mr. #DonaldTrump survived an attempted assassination. Political conventions are rallying the most stalwart of their bases. Pundits, polls, and prediction tools are changing their reporting daily. And now, Vice President #KamalaHarris will seek the Democratic Party nomination, which by all signals she’ll secure in the coming weeks. But, here’s the question of the election: Who will put children first?” Read more from Dr. Robert S. Harvey, FoodCorps President and Co-CEO, in “Harris v. Trump: Who Will Put Children First?” ➡ https://lnkd.in/gZ9ASAkp

📣Appropriations Update 📣 We want to thank everyone who took action this week to protect funding for @AmeriCorps & @AmeriCorpsNCCC, and the vital resources they provide community-based organizations all over the country. This week, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would jeopardize more than 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, risking the loss of vital resources for community-based organizations all over the country in 2026. Congress still has opportunities to protect and strengthen this funding, and we’ll need advocates like you to voice your support in the months ahead. ➡️️ TAKE ACTION: Urge Congress to reconsider this decision and protect funding for AmeriCorps by filling out this form, bit.ly/CCFY25, or share this and tag your representative, asking them to #Stand4Service [Image description: 1 graphic a black background saying, ‘Congress just jeaprodized 71,000 AmeriCorps positions, including vital roles at FoodCorps' and all capitalized text saying, ‘take action.’]

School food is a matter of justice. Food justice is key in building a world free from oppression. And schools—among the earliest places where kids learn about food, practice building community, and often get most of their daily nutrition—are critical in shaping this world for our kids. Read FoodCorps' blog "Why School Food is a Justice Issue" to learn why the movement for food justice must include school food. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3Lb12GC Share this post if you believe school food is a justice issue! 🥕

Today is the last day of service for our 2023-2024 FoodCorps AmeriCorps members! 🥹 In the words of Cassidy Hobler, FoodCorps Arkansas program coordinator: “We are so proud of you! You are community builders! You are courageous teachers, fun-makers, and friends. You are passionate about making children feel seen, loved, nourished, and included. You are confident and adaptable people who stretch, leap, and try new things… Thank you AGAIN for your commitment to the schools we serve, for being open to growing and learning, for stocking pantries over and over, for being resourceful and creative on the fly, for challenging yourself and for challenging what’s “possible”, for dreaming big and taking people with you, for gardening your hearts out, for being a trusting loving adult that kids look up to. Thank you for supporting each other and lifting each other up! You are amazing people and I have so much excitement and joy for each of you as you take the next step in your journey.” Congratulations on a fantastic year of service, everyone! 🥕 ⁣ ⁣ If you're a #FoodCorps alumni, shout out your service year and state in the comments below 👇
