At last week's National GHS Research Conference, Zipline's government research partners debuted a study we co-authored with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) about the impact of drone logistics on maternal health outcomes in the Ashanti Region. The study found that Zipline reduced maternal mortality by a staggering 56.4%, increased prenatal visits by 19.9%, and increased in-facility births by 25%. This was achieved not only because Zipline and the GHS made blood available on-demand, but because more regular availability of medical supplies increased patient confidence in the health system, causing mothers to visit health facilities more often for care needed throughout their pregnancies. Zipline and the Ministry Of Health, Ghana gathered in Kumasi last week to recognize five years of impactful partnership, which has boosted vaccination coverage in the country and saved more than 6,300 Ghanaian lives. Together with the Ghana Health Service, we unveiled research conducted in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The study, currently under peer review, finds that on-demand delivery of blood and essential medical products has saved lives and boosted confidence in the health system, causing more pregnant mothers to seek care at facilities and a 56.4% decrease in maternal deaths.
