We are pleased to be able to offer a bispecific maintenance therapy program in an outpatient setting. This promising type of immunotherapy is typically administered as an inpatient procedure and requires multiple overnight hospital stays. Now, multiple myeloma patients can opt to receive the same level of care and attention at FCS, close to home and outside of the hospital. Currently, we are offering our advanced cellular therapy maintenance program at our Sarasota Downtown and Winter Park Village locations, with additional sites coming on board with this exciting therapy soon. July is #BoneCancerAwarenessMonth and #SarcomaAwarenessMonth. Sarcoma is a broad, umbrella term for cancer that develops in connective tissues like bone, cartilage, muscle, tendons and blood vessels. A #sarcoma occurs when mesenchymal cells, a type of stem cell in adult tissues, multiply too quickly and grow out of control. According to the American Cancer Society, it is more common for cancer to spread to the bones than for it to begin in the bones. Cancer that starts in the bones is known as primary bone cancer. It is estimated that almost 4,000 new cases of primary bone cancer will be diagnosed in 2024, which includes both children and adults. Because primary bone cancers are rare, researchers have found it more challenging to study the best ways to treat adults. If diagnosed with bone cancer, enrolling in a clinical trial is recommended to have access to the most innovative and promising therapies. Exciting new studies are underway to better understand the genetic changes in bone cancer cells. This research could help develop targeted therapy drugs, which tend to offer fewer side effects than traditional therapies and can be a more personalized, tailored treatment for the specific cancer type. #sarcomaawareness #bonecancerawareness

In 2003, Anne was diagnosed with myelodysplasia 5q-, a rare bone marrow disorder that affects the development of red blood cells, often leading to anemia and enlarged red blood cells. When she learned of her condition, her current care provider told her she likely only had five years to live. Fortunately, through a support group, she learned of an innovative #clinicaltrial offering under the supervision of Gustavo A. Fonseca, MD, FACP, medical oncologist/hematologist and physician director of clinical research at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, and was able to enroll. Now, 20 years later, she recalls the many milestones she's experienced since her diagnosis and extends her gratitude to Dr. Fonseca, her FCS care team, and above all, the clinical trial (now a standard of treatment) that saved her life.
