🌎💗Earlier this May, we were delighted to host an event that celebrated the new #UrbanAgricultural initiative created by the USDA! 🎉🌳 🏙️🏡We’re passionate about the growth of urban agriculture, and the vital resources these organizations provide for metropolitan areas. During this event we celebrated the launch of two upcoming #UrbanService centers in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. Both centers will be staffed by employees of the USDA Farm Service Agency and the Nrcs-National Resource Conservation Service. These knowledgeable and skilled organizations will help connect urban farmers with farm loan, conservation, disaster recovery assistance, and risk management programs. 🧑🌾🥕 ✨🍅We’re truly grateful to be a part of the #UrbanFarm community! We’d love to have you along for the journey. Join us by signing up for a Saturday Open Farm Day. 🦋🌸https://lnkd.in/gBV9R9M3

Growing healthy food and strong communities on reclaimed public land.
About us
The Florence Fang Community Farm is a community site for all San Franciscans, based in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood in the southeast part of the city. Since our establishment in 2014, we have become the largest community farm and second most productive urban farm in San Francisco. Our community farm brings together a network of community groups and residents around policy issues of environmental sustainability, cultural diversity, and healthy living activities and eating practices. The Florence Fang Community Farm started out as the Florence Fang Asian Community Garden, with a focus on serving Asian immigrants and sharing Asian gardening culture. Since our groundbreaking, we have expanded our mission to focus on the wider intergenerational and ethnic diversity that defines our local community. On September 25th, 2020, we announced our renaming and rebranding to Florence Fang Community Farm, to reflect our growth. We aim to improve food security, increase healthy living habits, practice natural farming techniques, improve the environment, support neighborhood economic opportunity, and increase social connectedness within and between communities of color. Our farm also supports our community’s food sovereignty by providing a food source that is consistent with cultural identities and involving community networks that promote self-reliance and mutual aid. Our farm is a living and breathing showcase of how gardening design, farming techniques, and biodiversity can be shared and celebrated across cultures and differences, primarily those that reflect our residents and participants.

🎉🏡We’re back with another milestone in our Decades of Harvest campaign! This week, we want to highlight our bees’ arrival to the farm in 2018. Establishing #BeeHives on the farm have allowed us to harvest an abundant supply of fresh #Honey. The bees have also played a vital part in pollinating our flowers and veggies, helping our farm #Thrive. 🐝🍯 🫶🌳Over the past six years, we’ve kept our bees healthy and happy with the invaluable support of the SF Beekeepers Association. Huge shout out to Mark Carlson and Lindsay Wilson for their excellent work in teaching our volunteers and farmers about honey production and harvesting. 💗🌸 🐝🌷Our farm’s vibrancy is thanks to our wonderful bees! Your generous donations in the next few weeks will be dedicated to revitalizing our bee hives. ☀️🌎 https://lnkd.in/eRjPMR-F #UrbanAgriculture #NonProfit #Volunteerism

The Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood is defined as a #FoodDesert, where access to a variety of fresh and healthy produce is extremely limited. At Florence Fang Community Farm, we’re passionate about #FoodSecurity and #FoodSovereignty. It’s important to understand these concepts in order to create change in our communities: - Food security refers to the direct availability, accessibility, and affordability of food for all individuals. - Alternatively, food sovereignty goes past accessibility by focusing on communities’ ability to control their own food systems, helping them take control of production, distribution, and the variety of culturally-appropriate and preferred produce. At the farm, we value food security through our weekly Saturday Food Pantry and #Partnership with SF-Marin Food Bank. Additionally, we also prioritize food sovereignty with our #Community and #PublicAccess farm. We encourage all members in our community to grow the veggies they cherish. We’re helping make impactful change one step at a time! We’d love to have you join our journey. Please consider contributing to our farm by volunteering or making a donation. 🌎💗 https://lnkd.in/gBV9R9M3 #NonProfit #SocialImpact #Change

🌈🌸With summer in full swing, we’ve been upgrading the farm to help elevate our ability to produce vibrant veggies! This progress wouldn’t be possible without our amazing #Volunteer groups, such as Taiwanese American Professionals - San Francisco (TAPSF). This organization promotes Taiwanese-American identity across the Bay Area by hosting community service events and partnering with local organizations. 🇹🇼🫶 🏡🌳We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with TAPSF since before the farm began, where they helped us plan various AsianWeek Database Project events. Most recently, TAPSF volunteers enhanced our vegetable beds by adding support poles for nets, protecting transplanted sprouts. 💧🌱 🎉☀️Huge shout out to Tiffany for making this connection happen! We’re truly grateful to the wonderful volunteers who help our farm flourish. We’d love to have you join us at our next Saturday Open Farm Day. 🍅💗 https://lnkd.in/gBV9R9M3 #NonProfit #Volunteerism #Partnerships

🎉🏡We’re excited to share another milestone for our #DecadesofHarvests campaign! With our foundational infrastructure in place and our first crops thriving, we launched our Food Pantry in 2016, guided and supported by one of our founders, Johnny Chen. Located in a #FoodDesert, our mission is to supply the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood with fresh produce, and our Saturday Food Pantry has helped us achieve this goal. 🥬🍅 🧑🌾🥕Every Saturday morning we provide families with #FreshProduce from our farm and other nutritional goods from our friends at SF-Marin Food Bank. We’ve been able to serve over 275 families, helping these 700 individuals access healthy, vibrant produce. 🫶🌳 👏💗Our Food Pantry has been a massive #Success, and we’re grateful for the farm volunteers and partners who have supported this initiative! Your generous donations in the coming weeks will support crop maintenance and laying down new seeds. 🌸🌿 https://lnkd.in/eRjPMR-F #NonProfit #CommunitySupport #Fundraising

🌸☀️Throughout May, we dedicate ourselves to honoring and healing the #Earth! We’re grateful to collaborate with amazing #Partners, like Expressworks International. This dedicated group excels in guiding organizations through structural shifts and cultural nuances. Every year, Expressworks International celebrates #EarthDay by volunteering at the farm. 🌎🏡 🐣🌿This year, #Volunteers helped us give back to the earth by working on our chicken coop, weeding, mulching, and feeding our feathered friends. We are deeply thankful for our long standing partnership with Expressworks International, and we’re delighted to host them every year. 🫶🌳 💗✨If you're looking for a #VolunteerOpportunity for your organization, join the fun! 🌎🫶We’re always so delighted to highlight our incredible #Partners! This week, we’re shining a spotlight on National Health Corps (NHC). They’ve been working with us since the beginning, and were a vital #Team in helping us get off the ground. NHC members come to the farm quarterly, assisting us with soil health, planting, watering, building and harvesting. 🧑🌾🥕 💗🎉One of our valued NHC Members, Hannah, shared “I never knew that there was a Community Farm in the city. Volunteering here gave me a greater appreciation for the food that I eat and also understanding of the labor behind it. The time that I've spent here so far has been fulfilling." We’re truly grateful for the amazing #Volunteers we’ve connected with through NHC. 🏡🥬 👏🦋We’d love to have you get in on the fun! Come by to check out the beautiful produce we grow right here in San Francisco. 🫶🏡For this week’s post, we’re celebrating the remarkable foundational infrastructure that was built back in 2015! After preparing the soil for crops, #Volunteers spent the next year constructing our garden beds, irrigation system, composting bathroom, and stage. Thanks to our friends at Big Creek Lumber and Discount Builders Supply & Hardware we were able to secure durable materials for these essential structures. Additionally, a huge shout out to the Department of Public Works and Recology for generously donating a shipping container, which turned into our incredible on-site kitchen. Community support has been vital in our #Growth and #Success, allowing us to provide fresh produce to the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood.🌳🌈 🌎🎉2015 was pivotal in establishing the core infrastructure that forms the backbone of our farm! Your generous donations in the coming weeks will help us maintain and strengthen these decade-old foundations. 🥦🦋https://lnkd.in/eRjPMR-F #NonProfit #SocialImpact #Agriculture

🎉🍅We’re incredibly grateful for the various #Partners we have, and the talented volunteers they bring us! Today, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Life Science Cares Bay Area for their invaluable partnership. This #NonProfit is dedicated to addressing the current economic insecurity faced by many Bay Area residents and actively works to alleviate the impact of poverty. They have connected us with remarkable companies, whose volunteers have been instrumental in enabling us to donate fresh produce to families in Bayview-Hunters Point. 🥦🌈 🌸🫶Life Science Cares has connected us with Third Harmonic Bio, Nkarta, Inc., AN2 Therapeutics, and Baker Tilly. Volunteers from these companies have been vital in our farm’s #Success and ongoing growth. We’re truly grateful for the longstanding partnerships we’ve created through Life Science Cares. ☀️🌎 🏡🐝Join the action, and come by to plant crops, water plants, harvest fresh veggies, and play with our chickens!
