We're going solar, again! Today, Flint Hills Resources announced that we will be constructing a 27-megawatt solar project to help power our Corpus Christi west refinery. This project is the company’s second large-scale refinery integrated solar installation in U.S. (The first was at the Pine Bend refinery in Minnesota with a 45-megawatt installation). The new solar installation will provide electricity to the plant which produces jet fuel, ultra-low sulfur diesel and gasoline, in addition to the chemical-building blocks used in thousands of everyday products. Corpus Christi PREP is the local site of the Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (TexPREP), which provides educational enrichment opportunities for high-ability middle school and high school students interested in pursuing science-based careers. Our team at the Corpus Christi refineries got the pleasure of working with these 55 students for the past 6 weeks in this program. This is the 12th year of our partnership and we've contributed over $225,000 for this amazing organization. As a special bonus, one of our employees, Jerry Benavides had his son participating this year. We see bright things in his future as well as he explores careers in STEM. #partnerships #community #stewardship

Today, we hosted Bring Your Kid to Work Day at our Flint Hills Resources Corpus Christi refineries, and it was a fantastic success! Families had the chance to: 🔍 Tour our state-of-the-art refinery assets 🔬 Conduct thrilling science experiments 💼 Discover diverse career opportunities within our industry 🚒 Check out our impressive emergency response equipment 🍧 Enjoy delicious snow cones It was a joy to see the curiosity and excitement on the kids' faces as they explored and learned about the impactful work we do here. Project Clean Air Repair (Project CAR) was recently featured on WCCO | CBS News Minnesota as the Minnesota program expands into the east metro. The program, facilitated by Environmental Initiative works with local car repair shops to cover the cost of fixing emissions control and exhaust systems for qualifying lower-income Minnesotans. Nearly 600 cars have been repaired since we partnered with Environmental Initiative to start the program in 2017. https://lnkd.in/gcerN2WA

We're proud to announce that we recently were awarded an American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) Innovation Award. They recognize refineries, petrochemical facilities and their contractors that have developed unique and innovative programs or practices that effectively improve the site’s safety performance for either occupational or process safety. This particular award recognized our innovative sensor system that detects and monitors corrosion in challenging to monitor areas that was implemented alongside our sister company, Molex. #alwaysinnovating #stewardship #efficency

Introducing the 2024 Flint Hills Resources Discovery Scholars from Minnesota and Wisconsin representing communities near our Pine Bend refinery, various terminals and our pipeline system. About 40 amazing high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, a focus in science, engineering, technology, math, or construction related careers and an entrepreneurial spirit received this year’s award. The Flint Hills Family Festival brought thousands of families and students to downtown St. Paul and is one of our largest events of the year. We of course value our partnership with the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts who presents this amazing festival, but also appreciate so much, all of our community partners who participate in the festival including, Minnesota Zoo, The Works Museum, and Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center. #fhfamilyfest
