Over the last week, something totally TRANSFORMATIVE happened! I had the opportunity to co-facilitate a training that transformed a 100 high school teachers to changemaker teachers! My experience working with other Ashoka Young Changemakers, CTEACH ambassadors, esteemed government stakeholders in education, partners and leaders in Ashoka's CTEACH program, was surreal. Collaborating to help teachers see education through the lens of teenagers & young people and helping teachers develop and embrace 4 core changemaking skills - ▪︎ Conscious Empathy ▪︎ Shared Leadership ▪︎ Flexible Teamwork ▪︎ Changemaking Action It was very special doing this with my changemaking family, Ashoka Africa , meeting many familiar faces and networking with exceptional leaders and teachers with real passion and a growth mindset. Co-President of Ashoka Africa; Environmental & Equity Consultant; and, Founder of Greening Youth Foundation
Although exhausted, I am so full. The CTEACH team has graduated the first cohort of Changemaker teachers yesterday! 52 teachers representing the six districts of Lagos state, Nigeria completed the first pilot year of this innovative education journey. Our partners, fellows, Ashoka Young Changemakers, media, and government officials all came out to Lekki yesterday to be a part of the celebration. Thank you, all! A big thank you to First Book for providing the fuel to make the program possible. Oh, did I mention the induction of Cohort #2? Yes, we trained and welcomed 100 more teachers over the past week. All of these educators, or as our keynote speaker Damilola Okonkwo calls them “co-learners” began their journeys to integrate changemaking skills into their curriculum to equip students with the tools they need to thrive in this ever changing world as changemakers. My inner bookworm is loving this deep dive into Disney Publishing Worldwide's work to share the joy of reading with all, no matter their background or zip code. A love of reading spurs a love of writing, so there's no better way to inspire the next generation of storytellers. It was such a blast joining First Book, Ryan March and thousands of Disney fans who became honorary #VoluntEARS to assemble reading kits for kids in need 📚 https://lnkd.in/g4YuMSBd

🎉📖 Day 2 of #TataTruckOfBooks2024 in #NewJersey! Over 100 #Tata volunteers successfully distributed 35,000 books to Title I schools in New Jersey and New York. More than 150 educators and support groups picked out early childhood, elementary, middle and high school books for their students. These high quality books will flow into the New Jersey and New York school districts. They will help ensure students across the region have access to essential reading materials, placing them on a path for academic and future success. Tata Volunteers accompanied with their families and friends joined from Tata Consultancy Services - North America and JLR North America. It was a busy and rewarding day for #Tata, as volunteers assisted educators in selecting material, restocking piles of books, and supporting the check-in and check-out process. Thank you to the First Book team for this partnership and for making each of these events so special!
