We’ve hit the road to discuss all things Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering! Recently, Scott Wellens, Fincantieri Marinette Marine VP of Engineering and Gabriele Librandi, Fincantieri Marine Group University & Research Institute Manager visited the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hobokan, NJ and three other New York/New Jersey area schools.    While at Stevens, Wellens and Librandi hosted a “Lunch & Learn” where Wellens spoke to students about the innovative and engaging opportunities our organization offers. Wellens said “I met several dozen students that were enthusiastic about helping the nation to build a world class Frigate! They were interested in internships and what they could do for us after graduation. It’s great to get to the source and share my experiences as they embark on their careers." We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such reputable institutions and hope to reinforce a passion for maritime and shipbuilding work in the hearts and minds of the incoming generation as we work together to bring the future on board.   #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #NavalArchitecture #Engineering #FutureOnBoard

This week we celebrated #WorldMaritimeDay! This year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First!”, underscores the importance of maritime safety, security, and environmental protection. Safety is a core value of our company, in fact, our U.S. shipyards are among the safest in the country (recognized annually by the Shipbuilders Council of America). The vessels we build play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the seas they navigate. In honor of this, we recall the heroism of Chief Gunner’s Mate Justin Olson, a Search and Rescue Swimmer aboard the Fincantieri-built USS Cooperstown (LCS 27). In 2023, Olson saved a stranded mariner off the coast of South Carolina and was awarded the prestigious Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his bravery in 2024. Olson’s story is just one example of how our vessels enhance safety and security. #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #MaritimeSafety #FutureOnBoard

Last Thursday, Fincantieri employees attended the 19th annual Powerful luncheon event (formerly known as Power of the Purse) in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Powerful, an event by the Women's Fund of Greater Green Bay, offers both networking and educational opportunities for attendees. It is a significant force for women’s wellbeing in the greater Green Bay community, investing in programs, grants, nonprofits, and other women-focused initiatives. This year, keynote speaker Larissa May discussed her work as a digital wellness pioneer and activist. MaryKae Donovan, EV Lead CAM at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, gained valuable insights from May’s speech. She noted that one of her key takeaways was, “You can’t save the world through fear – we need to educate, support, and empower ourselves to reduce the fears we may have. Those tools we learn can be passed on to others who may struggle.” Thank you to the women who represented our organization at this year’s event and to all Fincantieri women. We look forward to providing further opportunities for empowerment and growth in the future. And don’t forget, you play an integral and much-appreciated role in bringing the future on board! 💪 #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #womenempowerment #FutureOnBoard

Last week, we asked you to identify the three core sectors of Fincantieri shipbuilding. If you guessed B (cruise, naval, offshore), you were spot on! 🏆 While we’re well-known in the U.S.A. for our work with the U.S. Navy and offshore projects at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, our parent company, Fincantieri, holds over 40% of the cruise ship market. ___________________________________________ In recent news, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw (WLBB 30) has arrived at our Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding yard for inspection, maintenance, and improvements. Built by the Marinette Marine Manitowoc Marine Group and launched in 2005, Mackinaw plays a vital role in commerce and safety. What do you think is the most important role of an icebreaker❓ Leave your thoughts in the comments and check back next week for more information about the crucial job of icebreakers in the maritime world! #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #FutureOnBoard #Shipbuilding #Maritime

On August 30th, University of Wisconsin-Madison students presented their findings from a summer internship with our parent company in Italy. The presentations took place at our Marinette, WI location, where faculty advisors and FMM senior leadership were eager to learn about the engineering and project management work the interns developed. Following their presentations, the students were given a first-hand look at the state-of-the-art shipbuilding facilities in our FMM yard. FMM, where we are currently building the future Constellation-class frigate for the U.S. Navy, was something new and different from the cruise division the students worked closely with in Italy. The minds of young people are wired to seek out solutions, and we want to provide them with the tools and guidance to turn their ideas into progress. Gabriele Librandi, FMG University & Research Institute Manager, is strongly invested in the program and all it has to offer. He reinforces its importance, saying, “FINCANTIERI’s motto is ‘Future On Board,’ and if we want to really bring the future and innovation on board, we need to be exposed to different inputs and different mindsets. These four students had the opportunity to be exposed to a different engineering culture and to work with our Italian counterparts in the large cruise division. They could get a taste of what building these massive and impressive ships means. On the other hand, Italian colleagues could enjoy this kind of ‘cross-contamination’ by being exposed to what American students in engineering know and are able to apply in daily tasks. I think this was a great experience for both parties, connecting the two sides of the ocean.” We are proud to partner with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and believe that education and research are vital components to bringing a more innovative and forward-focused shipbuilding future on board. Thank you to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for your collaboration and to our Italian colleagues for your mentorship. Congratulations to our interns Marcus Thelen, CESAR VELEZ, Colby Milligan, and Petar Vorkapich for a job well done! #Fincantieri #Shipbuilding #Engineering #FutureOnBoard
