It has been two and a half months since we took down the Fifth Avenue Association holiday decor and said goodbye to one of our most extraordinary holiday seasons yet (and my first). Here are five (our favorite number) of the most important lessons learned: 1. You are only as good as your partners. Without much runway, we executed phenomenal partnerships with NEST New York to scent Fifth Avenue for the holidays and Doris Duke Foundation to bring world renowned jazz music to our Open Streets. Refurbishing the iconic George Stonbely snowflake was a labor of love that was supported by our members. We also worked with more than twenty of our members to highlight special offerings and holiday events. We also had important market research and a beautiful holiday campaign that was executed by the top-notch team at The Sasha Group and implemented by our partners at Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis. 🌲 ❄ 🎶 2. Storytelling and history matter. Everything we did to promote the holidays was through the lens of Fifth Avenue history and the holidays. Our food vendors during The Gift of Fifth Holiday Open Streets had special Fifth Avenue and holiday food offerings you couldn't get anywhere else or during any other time of year. This played very well on our social media platforms and resulted in our largest TikTok growth to date. We partnered with Schrafft's Specialty Foods and Restaurants to bring back a beloved NYC institution for the first time in 40 years, which led to lots of great press. We focused on jazz music for Open Streets, because 52nd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues is officially "Swing Street" and had the highest concentration of jazz clubs in the world. The team at Risa Heller Communications helped turn our storytelling into news in outlets around the world. 3. Listen to your members. Our holiday decor by Holiday Collective was about enhancing the store window experience, not detracting from it. Our retailers on Fifth Avenue invest so much to make their windows look special for the holidays, so our decorations needed to be a neutral canvas that helped the street feel special, but didn't overpower the sidewalk experience. 🌲 4. Provide a photo moment. The main attraction for our decor, designed in partnership with Holiday Collective, was a beautiful double arch by GM Plaza. People dressed up to walk through it and have their picture in it. 👇 5. Give thanks. During my years in politics, I worried that I was perhaps too nice for that kind of work, but years later, people would tell me that they would take my call or help me out because I was nice. That mattered a lot in my career and still does. I have many people to thank and I am at the character limit, so here are a few: Emily Schumann, Mark Dicus, Madelyn Wils, Stephen Cardino, Jennifer Stuart, Celine Armstrong, ASLA, LEED AP, Nissa Heman Allison Matlin, Shannon Kiniry, Michelle Kushner, Michael Gurl, Deborah Buyer (she/her), along with the entire FAA staff, Board, and members.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on Fifth Avenue…. and smell like it, too! In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the Fifth Avenue Association has partnered with NEST New York to scent the sidewalks of Fifth Avenue during the holiday season. One-hundred-and-fifty live trees — a mix of fraser and noble fir — sit atop silver platforms and diffuse the best-selling luxury fragrance to surprise and delight visitors. President Marie Ternes Boster told WWD: “Our job at The Fifth Avenue Association is to create an extraordinary street experience that supports the retailers who call Fifth Avenue home; we want to create an outside experience that draws people inside.” Fifth Avenue is the premier home of holiday magic in New York City and attracts 10M visitors far and wide to take in the sights and sounds and, this year, the wonderful scent of NEST Holiday. Thank you WWD for the announcement, and to our wonderful partners at NEST, Holiday Collective's Michael Gurl, and Scent Marketing for bringing this idea to life. https://lnkd.in/ermY_vXD

No stranger to the fashion spotlight, Fifth Avenue once again took center stage as designers, tastemakers, and trendsetters turned their attention to New York Fashion Week. Some of our hotels and stores hosted high-profile runway shows and elite events, furthering our Avenue’s proud legacy as New York’s home of fashion, and the epicenter of the industry’s most important week. Highlights include: 1. TIME 100 Honoree Chrisitan Siriano celebrated the 15th anniversary of his namesake label with a stunning show at The Pierre New York, A Taj Hotel. 2. Tiffany & Co. debuted their latest Blue Book high jewelry collection at The Landmark, in collaboration with GIVENCHY. 3. Celebrated designer Sarah Staudinger previewed her rapidly-growing STAUD brand at The Plaza, A Fairmont Managed Hotel’s palatial ballroom. 4. The Plaza Hotel also hosted an amorously-inspired collection unveiling from Palomo Spain titled “Cruising in the Rose Garden.” 5. Nina Ricci Creative Director Harris Reed hosted an intimate dinner party at Bergdorf Goodman’s glamorous 7th-floor restaurant. Upper Fifth Avenue has long been known as the home of fashion in New York, boasting a concentration of luxury flagship stores and mainstay brands. In recent months, new store openings and critical business investments from our members have further boosted the Avenue’s appeal, prompting a mid-teens increase in foot traffic over 2022 (Placer.ai) and the lowest historic level of retail availability since 2016. According to JLL Vice Chairman Richard B. Hodos, “There’s a lot of newness coming because the area is the ‘Main and Main’ of New York City”, adding that “Prime real estate in the area has rebounded quicker than anyone predicted and the benefits will pay off for years to come.” Brands like Tiffany & Co. Nike, PUMA Group and more have innovated their in-store experiences, alongside exciting renovations from TAG Heuer, Abercrombie & Fitch Co. Burberry and Harry Winston. Early next year we’ll welcome SWAROVSKI and CHANEL High Jewelry.
