Fermilab is America's particle physics and accelerator laboratory.
About us
Fermilab is America's premier particle physics and accelerator laboratory. Collaborating with scientists from around the world, we perform pioneering research, operate world-leading particle accelerators and experiments, and develop technologies for science in support of U.S. industry. Fermilab works on the world's most advanced particle accelerators and digs down to the smallest building blocks of matter. We also probe the farthest reaches of the universe, seeking out the nature of dark matter and dark energy. Fermilab's 1,750 employees include scientists and engineers from all around the world, and we collaborate with more than 20 countries on physics experiments based in the U.S. and elsewhere. Located in Batavia, Illinois, Fermilab is managed by the Fermi Research Alliance LLC (FRA) for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. FRA is a partnership of the University of Chicago and Universities Research Association Inc., a consortium of 86 research universities. Nestled on 6,800 acres in the beautiful Fox Valley, Fermilab’s campus setting offers an informal and stimulating environment with a long history and promising future committed to education, the environment and, of course, world-leading research in particle physics. Join the excitement that comes from discovering the mysteries of the universe! For information on joining the Fermilab team please visit - http://wdrs.fnal.gov/employ/index.html

Do we know how long neutrinos can "live" for? That can depend on your frame of reference, and relativity can be complex. Neutrino physicist Dr. Kirsty Duffy explores the lifespan of neutrinos with guest theoretical physicist Dr. André de Gouvêa. 📹: https://lnkd.in/gPnKGcXS

Neutrinos don’t seem to get their mass in the same way as other particles in the Standard Model. https://lnkd.in/gd5zHZmB

Fermilab, Brookhaven National Laboratory and Berkeley Lab are designing and building accelerator focusing magnets for CERN's LHC upgrade. The first U.S.-built magnets arrived at CERN last year. The magnets built by the U.S. HL-LHC Accelerator Upgrade Project will tightly squeeze the two proton beams traveling in opposite directions around the LHC just before they collide. This tight squeeze will contribute to increasing the LHC’s collision rate by a factor of 5 over the original design value. #HiLumiLHC 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gDxwk3_M

Congratulations to Fermilab engineer Ram Dhuley!
Dr. Ram Dhuley recognized with CSA's 2024 Boom Award! The 2024 Roger W. Boom Award honors Dr. Ram C. Dhuley of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) for his pioneering work on cryocooler conduction-cooled superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities, which demonstrated first-ever practical accelerating gradients on an SRF cavity without the use of liquid helium. Dr. Dhuley also provides leadership to the Cryogenic Distribution System team of Fermilab’s PIP-IIaccelerator. Furthermore, Dr. Dhuley serves on the editorial board of the journal Cryogenics and will serve as chief technical editor for Advances in Cryogenic Engineering beginning at the 2025 CEC-ICMC.
